Laurell K. Hamilton had created two excellent novel series : Anita Blake series ( the vampire hunter) and Merry Gentry series ( fairy princess). Hamilton’s books were listen on New York Times bestseller list.

Lunatic Café is fourth book from mentioned earlier Anita Blake series. Brave woman ( professional dead raiser, vampire executioner and paranormal police expert in one person) again facing criminal case to be solved.

Action of the book starts from Mr Smitz visit in Anita’s office. He would like her help with finding his missing wife. Why he did not inform police? Mr Smitz wife happen to be a werewolf. Society is still prejudiced against all were animals and most of them hiding their second nature. Lycanthropy is a disease, which is contagious when victim is attack by shape shifter in  its animal form. Well. No world is perfect. Anita send grieving man to her friend who is privet investigator.

After few days she is ask to visit Lunatic Café, the place where shape shifters can gather. Marcus, the leader of werewolves pack tries to persuade her to help him. (He uses rather unusual method of persuasion). Some werewolves are missing. He wants her to find out what has happened to them and why.

Anita tries to lead normal life but being animator ( dead raiser), vampire executioner and police expert in one person doesn’t help at all. She still date Richard. ( Did I mentioned that Richard happened to be werewolf?). So many time our brave female promised herself that she will never date monster. Who said that life is easy. To get situation more complicated Vampire master of St Louis City is in love with her. Richard would die for her and Jean Cloud would kill to get her. It seems that her privet life is complicated to. Constantly being in danger doesn’t make things easier.

Lunatic Café is interesting, dripping with action, some violence and horror scene  ( everything what paranormal lovers want from good book) and of course tension between members of love triangle. The book is written in first person. It means that the main character Anita describes all what she can see, experience or feel. WE can face her difficult life, full of danger playing with “ monsters”, her paranoia ( she always carry guns ( Browning, Firestar and two silver knives). We can experience her feelings : fear, anger, doubts, loyalty and also love for life. We entering world of mysteries, mythical creatures, magic, power and creeping danger.

Will Anita chose Richard as a life partner despite his second nature or maybe she will fall for powerful Jean – Claude ? What had happened to all missing were animals and who stands behind it? You have to find out for yourself and reach for Lunatic Café, another great creation from talented Laurell K. Hamilton.
