Lusca

Lusca is a legendary or real sea monster reported in the Caribbean.

Lusca is a legendary or real sea monster reported in the Caribbean.  Cryptozoologists think that it may be a gigantic octopus, much bigger than known giant octopuses.  However, other scientists believe Lusca is really a Colossal squid.  Witnesses claim it grows to a size of 75 to 200 feet.  Lusca is mostly reported near Andros Island in the Bahamas.

Bahamians have been reporting this monster for years especially in connection with the blue holes of Andros.  The blue holes are a network of underwater cave systems which link the Atlantic Ocean with the island’s freshwater lakes.  Bahamian legend holds that Lusca is the guardian of the blue holes.

A gigantic octopus is more likely to attack ships because it is more aggressive than a squid. In fact, many reports of the legendary Kraken assaulting vessels may actually have been due to the Lusca.  Keep in mind, however, that the existence of a monster octopus has never been confirmed.  On the other hand, witnesses have reported seeing the boats of fishermen being yanked below the surface of the blue holes.  The only thing left of these boats have been flotsam.

However, some scientists claim that what people are seeing are whirlpools caused by swift tidal changes.

This leaves us with three possibilities.  Lusca could be a new, unknown species of octopus or it could be a giant squid.  Or it could be something else entirely, like an eel.  Beyond these basics, there is not much data on Lusca.  So, more research is definitely needed.

Very nice article. We just don’t know what is beneath us in the vast oceans. We can’t even find Loch Nessy!
