A review of the movie starring Kevin Costner.
Synopsis: This Robin Hood re-telling has the hero facing the Sheriff of Nottingham with the help of other outlaws and a Moorish comrade he brought back with him from the Crusades.
Who’s in it? Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman and Christian Slater.
What I liked about this movie: I have seen plenty of Robin Hood movies and Alan Rickman easily makes the best Sheriff of Nottingham. He just seems so calm and collected most of the time, making him seem even more evil than other interpretations of the character.
Also, as far as this storyline goes, it’s actually pretty decent. I like how they attempt to make some of the Robin Hood stuff a bit more realistic and even throw in a twist involving Will Scarlett (Slater) that most other movies probably wouldn’t have even attempted to do.
What I didn’t like about this movie: I’m not a huge Kevin Costner fan and he doesn’t do much to win me over in the starring role. Everyone around him has some sort of accent and he doesn’t even attempt one, making it very hard to believe his character.
Final Opinion: I’m not crazy about Costner, but overall, this is a pretty decent film and I enjoy watching it whenever I get a chance.
My Grade: 4 stars out of a possible 5.
