Some Information About Some of The Greek Gods
Not a lot but should give you good info on these gods.
- Eros: A god of love. Son of Aphrodite and has all the same powers. Often depicted as a young man with a bow and arrows. Patron of male love. Many stories involving him and Spartans prayed to him for luck before battle.
- Kronos: Leader of the Titans, Son of Gaia and Uranus, Kronos. A symbol of chaos and disorder to the Greeks. Father of the gods including Hestia, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter and Hera.
- Demeter: Goddess of Fertility. According to legends, she taught Man the ways of agriculture to end their wandering, nomadic ways and become civilized. For those reasons she was very popular with the rural population.
- Dionysus: God of wine, agriculture, and fertility. He is son of Zeus of Semele and was born late in the Greek Mythology, not well known. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Party’ God.
- Fates: Commonly known as the Moirae, they control a person’s destiny: The life, their death, and when they died. Commonly known as ruthless hags, they are the daughters of Zeus. Despite the fact that Gods are immortal, all gods including Hera, had a good reason to fear them.
- Hades: Lord of the Underworld, god of wealth, and husband of Persephone. He, Zeus and Poseidon drew straws to see who would rule what portion of the world and he drew the underworld. He abducted Persephone and when Zeus demanded him to return her to Demeter, he agreed but fed her a piece of pomegranate so she would return their once a year for winter.
