Some of the things on the list are quite strange. I do know the source of why lighting 3 cigarettes with the same match is considered unlucky. It’s because during the first world war, in the trenches, if you lit the first cigarette the enemy spotted the flame, second cigarette, he aimed, and third cigarette, he fired. But the one about the ambulance did make me laugh, because unless you saw a brown or black dog before you ran out of air, it would definitely be the worst sort of luck.

The scissors one is true. I dropped my scissors in my class the other day and my boyfriend was cheating on me so we broke up.

The ‘tails-side-up = bad luck’ thing is true – I found a quarter with the Tails side up at work and got fired two hours later over something stupid that should have only got me reprimanded (no bias – I’ve confirmed it since).

Whatever you do, DON’T TEMPT FATE. I’ve been carrying a piece of wood with me in my pocket ever since, just in case something bad happens, so I can knock on it and hope nothing bad happens.

Call me crazy – or, more accurately, call me a Michigander.
