The traditional Celtic Cross tarot spread is one of the oldest formal Tarot patterns, and if mastered, can be one of the best layouts for a specific question.  The spread consists of ten cards  placed in a formal pattern.

Each card position has its own special meaning, and order of interpretation.

The cards are dealt out in the order shown above:

Card S: This stands for the Significator, a card which represents the questioner/client.  This card is  chosen to represent the querant’s Star Sign and Gender, and is normally taken from the deck before the spread is laid out.

Card 1: This shows the current circumstances surrounding the Client.

Card 2: This card shows any immediate obstacles facing the Client.

Card 3: The qualities and the experience that the Client already has achieved and can draw strength from.

Card 4: The qualities and achievements that the Client has yet to gain.

Card 5: The Recent past.

Card 6: The near future.

Card 7: The Clients current feelings and emotions.

Card 8: How the world sees the Client.

Card 9: Hopes and Fears. If the card in this position is a negative one, it usually represents a fear. If a positive card is here, it will represent a hope.

Card 10: The final outcome of the Reading.

This spread is perfect for answering  a one-off question, and can give great insight into the events surrounding the Client.  No Reading using this method is ever the same, and can unlock more intricate levels of information.

When reading this Spread, it is always important to take note of the majority of Minor Arcana cards, this will hold the key to the focus of the Reading.
