The Dioscuri
A quick history behind the Gemini twins, Castor and Pollux.
In Greek Mythology the Gemini twins, Castor and Pollux, were known as the Dioscuri. Leda was the brothers mother but each had a different father. Castor was the son of Leda’s husband, Lyndareus, the King of Sparta, and human. Pollux was the son of Zeus and so half god, making him immortal. They were also brothers to Helen of Troy, whom the Trojan War was started over. Both boys were also Argonauts, having travelled with Jason during his search for the Golden Fleece.
Castor and Pollux fell in love with sisters who were already married to their cousins, Idas and Lynceus. Castor and Pollux fought and killed the two but in the battle Castor was wounded and later died. Overcome with grief Pollux tried to kill himself but this proved impossible because of his divine descent, Zeus pitied his son and allowed the two to live together in the sky.
