“The Hook”: An Urban Legend in Review
This is a review of a revised version of the classic hook-man legend.
I just finished reading “The Hook”. It was the version retold by S.E. Schlosser. So what is this urban legend about? It is about a man with a hook in place of his right hand that escaped from an insane asylum. Radio stations were running broadcasts warning people about this man.
A girl and her boyfriend go out into the night, on a date. They went to see a movie in a drive-in type setting. After the movie was over, the two went to lover’s lane. But once they reached lover’s lane, the romance went away. She was telling her boyfriend that she was getting scared and wanted to leave. She probably felt this way because she recognized the same radio announcement she heard earlier in the day.
The car they were in started to shake. The boyfriend finally realized something was wrong and they left. When they finally got back to the house, the girlfriend looked on the side of the car. She found a hook hanging on the door.
