The Legend of The Easter Bunny

The legendary Easter Bunny will be making the rounds, through children’s schools, parks and recreation centers, and communities all over the United States. Why the Easter Bunny, or in some versions, the Easter Chick? We will discuss this matter, briefly here.

The legendary Easter Bunny is a subject of much lore and mythology, numerous web pages discuss the lore and lure of the what we call the Legend of the Easter Bunny.

Why the Easter Bunny, and not the Easter Chick? The Easter Chick might look adorable carrying around a basket, however, it would be pretty tough to carry around a basket of eggs under a wing, or in a beak, purportedly – although, my gutfeeling on the matter is that someone deliberately created the Easter Bunny, knowing that it would be a somewhat ludicrous concept, thus more entertaining. The Easter Chick is sometimes depicted in Easter Baskets or delivering the Easter Basket, or hatching out of an Easter Egg.

The Easter Rabbit just doesn’t sound as cute as the Easter Bunny does, somehow. Rabbit sounds more serious, Bunny just sounds jovial, almost comical. Rabbits eat vegetables, so why the Easter Bunny doesn’t give out vegetable chips for Easter is beyond my logical thinking, I just don’t comprehend it. Perhaps I’m too limited in my thinking here, to be unable to cognate a reason for why the Easter Bunny doesn’t give out dried produce, which is what rabbits generally eat, rather than candy.

Candy is almost everywhere, just prior to Easter – from supermarkets, to discount stores, to churches, charities, drug stores, department stores, variety stores, and sometimes even thrift stores. Some folks compare Easter to Christmas, which is accurate for the Christian meaning of it. However, the secular meaning of Hallowe’en more closely resembles that of Hallowe’en, especially the dressing up in costume and the candy parts of the day.

Some children are lucky enough to be given Easter Bunny suits or pajamas, while others receive hats decorated with the Easter Bunny, or slippers. There are also Easter Chick suits and pajamas that are darling, as well as accessories. Easter is commercial enough as it is, and doesn’t need anything else to bring in more bling, or more cha-ching.

I myself am not entirely certain as to why the Easter Bunny developed, or as to how, and doing research on the subject has not, as of yet, revealed the actual truth. Thus, I am hypothesizing that a round table of major business executives had a discussion, sort of a competition of what animal would be the most popular animal to symbolize the spirit of the spring. A competition, so to speak, sort of like American Idol, Survivor, or Dancing with the Stars, where the winning candidate would be chosen via process of elimination.
