The Myth

Everything about the myth.

The myth is a narrative character continuous text written in prose that explains the origin of the world, human beings, of things, of gods, the birth of the universe and the heroes of antiquity. Usually almost all myths have a religious or philosophical meaning.

Today we use this word to mean many different things. We say that Elvis Presley is a legend of rock or the superiority of the white race is a myth. In the first case we use the term to mean that writers are exceptional and, secondly, it’s a lie.

Features of the Myths

  • Explain the reality of something is not understood why they exist and what is its origin.
  • The stories are fantastic.
  • Surge of “invention and imagination of primitive man.
  • It’s oral tradition. It is transmitted from generation to generation.
  • Usually, recounts the origin of human beings, the universe and other questions.
  • You can have three bases: actual fact, historical and philosophical.
  • It originates with the birth of a people to explain their genesis.
  • The main characters are sacred beings or gods.
  • Myths are anonymous as it has an author defined.
  • It has a symbolic meaning

Classes Myths

  • Myths theogonic: Relate the origin and history of the gods. For example, Athena emerged armed from the head of Zeus.
  • Cosmogonic myths: creation of the world try to explain it. They are the most universally extended and there is more.
  • Myths anthropogenic: Explain the origin of beings and things, trying to explain the origin of humans.
