Voodoo Woman

Voodoo, it hurts until the needle is removed or is it myth?
A light hearted look at the practice of Voodoo.
The author of this article does not practice voodoo worship, but is interested in the history and its background effect on tribal hysteria and musical influences.

Voodoo worship is seen as a sin by some and as a powerful god by others. Some folk see the Voodoo doll as harmless and others see it as a tool of power.

When we think of Voodoo, we think of a type of doll, that has straw like hair and a stuffed cloth body. It is thought that if you make a doll like image of an enemy and stick pins into a certain area of their body, for example, the abdomen, they will experience pain in that area, until you stop.

Spells are cast.

The word Voodoo interpreted, means ’spirit of the god’, it is an activity thought to be founded amongst the African community. It is still practiced today.

We think of it as a weapon of evil to hurt others, by sticking needles and pins into it. In some cultures it is seen as a means to reproduce life that is lost.

The national Geographic has a very good video of voodoo activity today.

In the music world Voodoo has been written about and singers have spread the word.

Jimi Hendrix sang of his Voodoo Child as did Stevie Ray Vaughan

John Leyton had his own version, he sang  of a Voodoo woman under his spell

Voodoo is not a worship of false gods for some and a practice of healing for others, either way it is a subject that captures the imagination.

    Interesting article.

I do believe that there is some sort of super powered magic and if you have ever experienced it you would not believe the strength it has.

I know someone that had black magic done and then they were cured by the good. The person was at first dying from being obsessed that they were sick, but in fact there was no sickness confirmed by not one but two different doctors. Then when he was cured by the good magic, his appearance changed from being totally withdrawn to being normal again. I saw it with my own two eyes, otherwise I wouldn’t have believed it!!! Freaky!

    Hi Glynis
This is another interesting topic you have hit on and I hope you will add to this, because it hasn’t just really caught my imagination, I feel there is more in the market to be explored on the subject.
If you do look further into Voodoo, I shall be watching with interest.

    Good Luck and Best Wishes

Wonderful and informative writing! Great choice of music too. I do prefer Jimi’s version over SRV’s, but both are good. This was entertaining!

In order for a Voodoo doll to be functional it requires a personal artifact or contribution from whom the doll is to represent. For example, my doll is incomplete until Glynis forwards the lock of hair that I requested. Once she complies, my doll is complete and I can begin making her life more miserable that I have already. LU :)

This is an interesting article, Glynis. I’ve always thought of Voodoo as a dark magic and so have avoided it. I see now that Voodoo is not used to cause harm when used by some. Thanks for enlightening me.

yes, voodoo can be said as meaning a lot of different things. Religion of any kind can be a taboo subject for many people.

I knew a lady, a nurse I worked with in Texas, that practiced voodoo. She could be a scary person. I think she wanted to be. She was finally fired when she tried to curse our nurse manager. This is true. I found this quite an interesting article. Good work.

Certainly Voodoo is a debatable issue, but I myself believe in this for I have known a lot of these people who practice the art.

Voodoo economics is a term used to descibe how people run our economies. Nice article. I think in the US they mix Catholicism with traditional Voodooism or some such.

Really interesting to learn about new and various things;the mind craves to learn, and the same mind can be convinced to do many things by influence and persuasion; including being sick and such. For example, just a stern look to one of my daughters, and she was convinced she just got spanked with fury, with tears and all. Lol (wink) Good piece, my friend.

I made a voodoo doll of my banker and emptied his pockets. Look at the mess I made!
Interesting in the NG video… all references are that the child be resurrected in 3 days… some things never change!
    Thanks,
