Many people believe the world is coming to an end in 2012 is because that is when the Mayan calender stops. On December 21, 2012 to be exact. But they had different calenders than we do. It is possible, but not likely. Seriously, every calender has to end sometime, doesn’t it? Most 2008/2009 calenders might stop on December 31, 2008 or something like that. But some continue for a couple months into the next year. But just until we go out and buy a new one, right? And the Mayans didn’t use the same year as Christ was born (year 1). According to the Jewish calender, it is over year 6000.

There are many ways the world can end in 2012. But not many are likely. One way is geomagnetic reversal which could be triggered by a solar flare equal to 100,000,000,000 (100 billion) atomic bombs. This belief is supported by evidence that the Earth’s magnetic field is weakening. Some scientists believe that a geomagnetic reversal should’ve happened on Earth many years ago because the last one was 780,000 years ago. But critics claim that reversals take 5,000 years to complete and none start on any particualar date.

Another theory is that a planet called Nibiru will collide or come very close to the Earth. So close that people would be able to see it in the night sky clearly wihout a telescope. This theory has been around since 1995 and is based on claims of channeling alien species. However this idea has been widely ridiculed.

Yet another way that the world could end in 2012 is black hole alignment. If galactic alignment occurs, it will create a combined gravitational effect between the sun and the supermassive black hole (known as Sgr A*)
in the center of our galaxy creating havoc on Earth. But Sgr A* is 30,000 light years from Earth and it would have to be 6 million times closer to create any gravitational disruption to our solar system.

Clif High also claims to have predicted this. He claims to have predicted many disasters such as the September 11 attacks and the Indian Ocean earthquake a couple years back as well as Hurricane Katrina. He created a “Web Bot” that searches for specific keywords and finds patterns in them. However most people believe it is impossible to predict stock market crashes, terrorist attacks, or other human-made events.

The world will eventually end. Whether it is gigantic solar flares or when the sun runs out of energy. But the sun still has billions of years of energy so it will not run out very soon. So you should not be worried about dying very soon. You still might have a full life in front of you, so use it! It is better to have a short life but fulfill all of your dreams than to have a long boring life not completing one.
