Eco Towns

If Eco towns provide so many benefits, why do people still campaign against them? Here we discuss some of the key points made by protesters.

In Modern society we’re concern for the environment and economy is at its greatest it’s not surprising that the Government have begun to organize the concept of an ‘eco-town’. These exemplar towns are designed to provide an ocean of benefits effecting the area country wide.

You may be surprised that people are campaigning against the construction of these towns. Or maybe not. We know that the 21st century human is about as sceptic as Goldilocks, but people must have a high degree of nerve to run against something with such huge benefits.

How could one turn down a solution of helping boost the economy by pumping millions generated from new shops and facilities, a solution that will possibly put hundreds of people into, and for that matter back into work, let alone the environmental benefits.

One of the main points against the Eco town is the concern for the countryside and it’s views, as someone whom cherishes such things, I understand this, but there are new chain housing estates popping up being built within the same area which have had no negative attention, so why then point at the Eco town? It has no logic.

I’m 100% certain that in the next few centuries a lot, if not most of the countryside will have been manipulated in some way, so why don’t we grab the chance to use it for good? Look at the space in which these towns are being planned on, if they are rejected give it a few decades, and I guarantee you will be saying hello to David Wilson.

Ha ha, I find it funny that in one article you can be so against a vegetarian lifestyle (or at least ones reasoning for it), then contradict yourself in another… Sure lets go eco because I don’t want to harm the earth, but lets farm animals… because they are yummy… hmmm

Much like the people that will eat a steak but be up in arms if someone wanted to say.. dock a sheeps tail, or eat a cat..

Georgy boy, pick a side or zip it..

Your mistaken tamicab, it’s not a contradiction as it’s a completely different matter.

I’m saying that an Eco town is good for the economy and environment and me arguing against vegitarianism is not relevant to this what so ever.

You see you must understand that the term animals, is not also known as the word Earth.

Farming animals is sustainable, eat meat because it’s good for you, and we have been eating it for thousands of years, our bodies have evolved to survive on meat.

So when replying in the future, make sure you have a valid point.

PS. I’m all for eating cats.

Oh a valid point.. I apologise I just assumed you would be wise enough to understand the relation.. You say farming animals is sustainable? to who? the animal population, sure… to ensure earth has an endless supply of beef, sure..

In a short term, environmentaly UNfriendly way, YES animal production is economically sound, but so is smoking.. In a long term sense neither are, we would economically be far better off without smokers and without omnivorous diets.. 30 per cent of the worlds land is used for livestock, forests are cleared to make way for livestock production (including the land as the stocks food source).. In fact up to 70% of the Amazon has been cleared for this purpose. 20% of these pastures are now degraded due to overgrazing, overuse etc.., that soil will take centuries to be viable for farming again and with meat sales set to almost double by 2050, we can expect for much more land to be cleared for this. Now land used for vegetable production is far more efficient, basically per acre of land you will harvest about 10000kgs of potatoes or 160lb of beef.. 160lb is only enough to feed 2 humans for one year.. (don’t worry I recognise that vegetarians need more then potatoes, but it works in roughly the same way). According to PETA India “The world’s cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people – more than the entire human population on Earth.”, surely those precious food supplies would be much better put to use on the 3 billion humans in the world who are said to be malnourished..

Now how much water do you think it takes to get your steak to the table?? Well over 20,000 litres per kg.. yes that is correct.. yet it only takes 500 litres to produce a kg of wheat..

Overall Animal production is proven to be one of the biggest contributing factors to global warming, producing more greenhouse gases then all world transport methods (car, boat, train, plane, golf buggy etc.. etc..) combined…

So George, I hope I made my point valid enough now.. maybe your next article will be based on some actual facts yourself.. It is very clear that Animals for food does not benefit us economically, physically or environmentaly.

Btw, a lot of my information is based on a well known report from the UN called Livestock’s long shadow.

another note.. livestock refers to all animals for food (chickens, cows, sheep, fish etc.)
