Experiencable Program Units

Movies and TV will change thanks to EPUs.  Instead of watching a movie, you can be a part of it.  In a freestyle program, people will be able to change the movies.  Maybe instead of the leading man getting the girl in the end, you’ll be the lucky guy.  Video games will be more exciting and realistic once EPUs are perfected. 

There will be many who will want to spend most of their time in EPU programs.  That is why the chambers will have life support systems to make sure the users remain alive if they want to use their chambers for an extended period of time.  EPU programs may be programmed to recognize that people are in them for too long.  Only people experiencing vacations may be allowed to stay in travel programs for long periods of time.  Even then, they will have to eat and drink.  They will be able to experience exotic foods and never gain an ounce.  Some vacation spots and nations may produce EPU programs to sell to tourists so that they won’t need to travel from home.  But they will still experience those places. 

For dangerous jobs, EPU-controlled robots will be perfect.  Out in space, astronauts will use them to go outside of space stations.  The first people to land on the moon Titan might be experiencing the event via EPU-controlled robot.  At least the astronauts will be safe while the robots experience the harsh conditions of the moon.  At least if a robot is damaged there won’t be any deaths. 

Criminals will be held in EPU prisons.  If a person is a murderer, he may have to spend the rest of his life in EPU programs.  He might rehabilitate himself and be allowed to experience work and people outside the prison.  But his body won’t be free.  Maintaining a person on life-support in an EPU chamber might cost less than $1 a day.  This will make EPU prisons very attractive for the justice system.  

EPUs could be as big an advancement for computers as the microchip was.  No more spending hours at the keyboard.  Just place the helmet on your head or lie in the chamber and you’ll join your mind with a computer.  The possibilities are endless.
