In the Year 2050
Third World War put paid to what mankind has been building and bring forth another era of history. Here’s how the situation may play out.
In the year 2050, the world is till recovering from the devastation of the 3rd World War 5 years earlier, ie 2045. In that War, only 30%, or 600 million of the then world’s population of 20 billion survived…
Almost all of the world’s countries were totally destroyed. Population were decimated, cities and all infrastructure reduced to rubbles by the horrific power of nuclear bombs unleashed on each other by the warring parties. Only the continent of Australia, the islands of Borneo, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific Island and New Zealand escaped unscathed.
America suffered unimaginable loss with the whole continent a total write off, so is Europe, Africa and Asia. There are no trees or vegetation there, just barren rocks, rubbles and muddy fields. To have an idea of the severity of the destruction, some mountains are gone like the Alps and the Rockies, what was once the Middle East is now an extension of the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Only Scotland remains of the former isles of Great Britain. New York, New Jersey down to Maryland is a vast expanse of Atlantic. China, India and all of Russia are barren wasteland. The islands of Japan and Taiwan are sunk as a result of massive earthquakes generated by the repercussion of the nuclear bombs. In short the map of the world has to be redrawn. But they are still uninhabitable because of nuclear radioactivity and have to be left barren for at least another 10 years before the toxicity wears off and the land arable.
There are no higher rise buildings, no farmland, no factories left, just plain rubbles where once proud cities stood. Wildlife has completely disappeared, except for some migratory birds which were elsewhere when the bombs were dropped. Weather pattern has changed drastically in fact with the absence of carbon dioxide emission from fuel and gasoline, planet earth has slight cooled somewhat, and the two poles are beginning to regain their ice caps.
By 2050, Australia is divided into two superpowers, Sydneysia and Melbournia. Each has a roughly equal population of about 200 million, a direct result of uncontrollable mass evacuation of people from the warring states. Borneo, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand also had about tens of millions of people crammed into their shores during the conflagration. Now Kuching, Port Moresby, Auckland, Hobart are teeming metropolitans with population of 10 million each with infrastructure bursting at the seams, and still unresolved refugees camps festering with crimes and diseases.
There are only a few countries left and no more United Nations. Water is a very scare commodity as all desalination plants were destroyed. Sydneysia and Melbournia almost went to war over their disagreement of their shared water resources.
AS all fossil fuel had already dried up (since 2030), most vehicles run on mini uranium-powered battery pellets the size of a paper back, and are recycled. All domestic power is run on this battery too and is all wireless. There are no more unsightly overhead wires and cables. Factories hums on energy generated from the sun, wind, wave and dams, and produce only goods that are essentials for day-to-day living. Gone are the days of mass consumerist items like computers, mobile phones and the likes. Many people go back to live self-sustained life in the rural area, growing and producing their own food. Mankind has decided to go back to the days of frugal and simple living for their own good. Finally the trauma of war had shaken the world so much that humanity has vowed to live a life without the trappings of modernity.
