Science Pollution Story
A story about bad polluted conditions in the future.
Life in the Future – 2075 AD
A Futuristic Pod
Prologue: The year is 2075 AD. Although there have been many advances in technology, medicine, science, and other fields of study, the environment is suffering. The ozone layer has almost completely broken down, many animal species have become extinct due to deforestation and desertification, and carbon dioxide levels have reached new highs, with carbon dioxide taking up 10% of atmosphere. Not only that, but a portion of the polar ice caps have melted, drowning almost all coastlines and low-lying countries. Millions have died due to all of these environmental problems. Because of all of this, people live in pods, which contain nearly everything they need to survive, and don’t get affected by ozone rays. This story shows a day in the life of an 11 year old boy in 2075 AD.
Getting out of his bed inside his pod, Wayne looked at the time on his projection clock. It was already 5:00 AM! He only had 10 minutes to get to school! Walking into his clothes booth, he waited until it put a pair of clothes on him. Then, he walked to his liquid meal table. Typing in pancakes, he watched as he received his pancakes in a glass. While drinking it, he turned to his computer and typed in the simple message he always left to his mother and father. Going to school, be back at 12 pm, it read. Time to go, he thought to himself. Grabbing his universal remote, he pressed the school button and watched as his pod headed off to the big school pod building.
Overgrazing
At school, Wayne used his lesson monitor to program a lesson on history. He was very interested in history, and he loved how the graphics made it feel like he was there at the time they were talking about. Putting the date as 2009, Wayne pressed the OKAY button.
Factories Polluting the Environment
In the lesson, Wayne saw amazing signs of people farming, commuting using their technology, and trading between each other! Best of all, they didn’t live in pods, they lived outside! However, Wayne also saw many traces of his Primitive Science course in the history lesson. In his primitive science course, he learned about overgrazing, which lead to desertification. He also learned about the pollution from motor vehicles, and the reason everyone lived in pods – ozone depletion. Wayne saw people polluting the environment with many huge factories, releasing Chlorofluorocarbons, and generally just messing up the Earth’s delicately balanced environment. Looking out of his pod, Wayne looked at the barren, desolate land of his time. If only the people before us had kept the environment good, so we could use it instead of living in these conditions….thought Wayne. Disgusted with the acts of the people before him, Wayne turned off his monitor and moved to his Current Day Science lesson.
However, even in the science lesson, there were signs of bad environmental care. The polar ice caps threatened to melt, with the average temperate greatly decreased from earlier stages and now at a mere 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Even though people did not pollute too much, and people had stopped cutting trees, there were still underground, illegal activities, and factories still had to make goods for the people to use. Wayne sighed. He had never realized how much he hated pollution.
Polar Ice Caps
Looking at his projection monitor, Wayne realized the time was already 12 pm. It was time to return to his home pod for gaming, exercise, and social interaction lessons. He sighed…it was the same daily schedule, and nothing ever changed from his lifestyle. I wonder how people back then lived…thought Wayne. I wish I could go back in time and persuade people to change the environment. Maybe that would have helped… thought Wayne. But he knew that he couldn’t, so he just sighed and pressed the home button on his remote to head back home.
