The Future Newspaper
by The future newspaper is an electronic foldable and unfoldable plastic material that you can see your hometown newspaper on and can interact with.
It would have a color screen, a push screen that you could use to look up complicated words and also ideas that can take you to a past article on the subject.
Basically it’s kind of like a computer screen that has rich detail and you can’t break it by sitting on it pouring water on it or trying to rip it. It would solve a lot of problems in the newspaper industry today. In the morning you would plug it in and it would download today’s addition you then would have the whole day to read this subscription.
By the next day you’d have the next one by plugging it in again. How does this solve today’s flailing newspaper industry? The most expensive part of making a newspaper is buying paper, printing the newspaper, and distributing it. If you have a digital newspaper you don’t; need paper and you don’t need huge time consuming printing presses or the ink or trucks to deliver it.
The only thing you need is an internet connection to download and a power outlet for recharge. With these cost savings the newspaper industry could expand and revolutionize the way it brings you news.
You would have more blogs and more commentary on what people thought about a story. You could have writers write from home. In fact you could close up that expensive newspaper office and have everyone download their stories and new ideas to a main building where the paper would be designed for the next day.
It would stream line production. It would reduce costs and it would allow more news to be written by other writers who before would not have been given a chance.
In fact it changes the way news production is done. Instead of hiring everyday reporters you could outsource to reporters who have better leads or better sources, or who are hungrier to come up with a story. It also allows you to push press deadlines because there is no longer a press to have to worry about meeting a deadline for. Oh sure there will still be deadlines but it will be pushed back because you can just publish the newspaper later.
All I know is that the newspaper we know is going to change. Are you ready to hang on?
