Time Travel: is It Possible?
If one could recreate the past, it would be impossible to say how the world would change. Just what would happen is a question that has been asked for centuries. But an even more asked question is how could this all be possible.
The answer, simply put, is time travel. Time travel has been fantasized about for centuries, since philosophy and writers could first begin thinking. The idea of going back in time and changing the outcome of some event so that the present would be different has always been looked on as impossible. Until recently, time travel was just a science fiction hypothesis in which people could explore a totally new world. But thanks to new developments in math and physics and new understanding has been found in our universe. Albert Einstein proved the general theory of relativity, which in a sense allows time travel to be possible. The question finally arises, what is time. The leading scientists of the present propose new ideas constantly of just what this thing is called time. In reality, time is extremely hard to define. The human being’s conception of time is more or less an attempt to give order to a world, which could in fact have no order. Time could be illusionary but it is a human concept that makes sense. Time travel has been a question of possibility amongst society for centuries but not until recently have scientists began seriously considering its possibilities and whether or not mankind will ever be able to attain such a technology.
The idea of time travel probably first developed about two and a half thousand years ago. Time has been studied by scientists for a very long time and because of this multiple idea have been developed such an idea. No one is really sure just who came up with the idea of time travel. However, it is estimated that it began in the advanced cultures of the Chinese, Roman, or Greek. While they all had stories that had relation to some sort of time travel it isn’t really sure just who first wrote about it. Philosophers all throughout history of written about time and what it is and why it is the only dimension we live in that has a certain direction. Homer wrote about time travel in some of his stories in way related to gods modifying the outcome of different events. While it is still unsure where the true idea of direct travel through time first arose, it is well known that it is around the era where people really started thinking. Philosophers of Roman, Greek, and Eastern cultures all thought of different ways to change the outcomes of events already past. It is unknown exactly what philosopher first wrote about it, but it probably started out simply as a spoken issue. A fun story that the storytellers could entertain the people with is probably how it all began. The true origins of time travel however, are not that important to whether or not it is possible. All that the information gives us is just how long the human race has been thinking about it (Shackley).
