If there is one thing that can be said for the human race, it is that they take a small bit of information and blow it out of proportion in a short period of time. Anyone can look at the plithe of the celebrity in the news and notice the effect of this habit. From 0 to 60 in a few nanoseconds, the celebrity that is caught doing something wrong is instantly the hit of all major media. Within hours, or maybe days, the celeb is replaced with another hot story or celebrity fall. The same is not true for the date December 21, 2012. The end of the world is heading our way according to believers. This may be the largest media storm of all time.

Remembering the Year 2000

Many people will remember the year 2000 and the power the media had over the masses. The computer system was going to shut down and all human life was going to halt in its tracks. There would be no communication, no way to get the goods we need to live and no more DEBT (hooray for that one!). The trouble with the year 2000 phenom was that nothing happened. People stored up supplies for years to come; spent their life savings on pallets of water, food and clothing. Nothing happened. Is 2012 on the same path to be the next year 2000?

Taking a Look at the History of 2012

The majority of the people who have no idea about December 21, 2012 will find out the power of that date from Hollywood. In an attempt to play off the fright associated with the date, a major motion picture is being released that covers all of the theories of that fateful date. For the older generation who has been living with the Mayan calendar for a while, this movie will play off the fear already present in the mind.

In reality, the date December 21, 2012 at 11:11 GMT is the end of the Mayan calendar. With this end is supposed to come a catastrophic event that will change the face of the earth. This event could be caused by man or by some other force. For religious believers, God has even been brought into the equation as the cause for the end of days.

What is Real and What is Perception?

The realities of December 21, 2012 are far less exciting. The Mayan calendar is cyclical. This means the calendar is written to a certain date where it then can be restarted and followed again. The Mayans were very smart and would never continue preparing a calendar if they were already finished the research. Just like a Lifetime movie, the dates may change but the information is the same.

Enjoyed your article. I believe it is not an end but a beginning, but it will be interesting when the mainstream media begins to start covering it as much as michael jackson.
