Will The World Really End in 2012?
Talks about Mayan and Sumerian prophecies, Planet X or Nibiru, a pole shift, and Nostradamus’ predictions.
I have been fascinated by prophecies, predictions, and of course the date December 21, 2012 since I saw a show about Nostradamus and 2012 on the history channel. It sparked my imagination and I have done much research on the topic. Ill be presenting opinions and facts from both sides.
There are many theorys going around that the world as we know it will end on December 21, 2012. The way that the world will end on that day has been claimed to range from a planet hitting Earth, to the poles switching. The biggest evidence that the people who claim to this has to do with the ancient Mayans and their culture. Ill be explaining that first.
The Mayans were an ancient civilization that inhabited Central and South America around 3,000 BC. They are most remembered for making advances in astrology and most of their sacred temples were constructed to line up with planets, stars, the sun, or the moon. The Mayans were the one who actually created the calander that we use today, and the calander is the reason everyone is so scared. The Mayan long count calander ends on December 21, 2012. This has led people to believe that the world will end on December 21, 2012. The skeptics say that the people who believe this are just misinterpreting it. That the Mayans never said the world was going to end on that day, just that their calender ends and will start again.
The next theory is that a asteroid called Planet X or Nibiru will hit our Earth. This belief comes from the ancient Sumerians who just like the Mayans, were very advanced in Astrology. They knew about all the planets, their colors, how many moons they had, and even once mentioned that there was water on Mars. The Suemrians claimed that everything they knew was taught to them by their Gods who were called Anunnaki (translated to ‘those who from heaven to earth came’ ) who came from a planet called Nibiru (tanslated to ‘the planet of crossing’ ). The Sumerians claimed that the planet Nibiru will enter our solar system every 3,600 years beacuse of it long elliptical orbit, leading us to believe that Nibiru will hit Earth. NASA has been looking for this Nibiru or Planet X so if it was to hit us, we could prepare. Thay have not found this planet and have dismissed the beliefs for the world to end on 2012 as false.
The fianl theory I will talk about today is Nostradamus’ predictions for this cataclysmic date of December 21, 2012. Nostradamus is known for predicting events he wrote about in his quatrains that in the past have actually happened. In one of his quatrains talking about the date December 21, 2012 her wrote “In the sky will be seen a great fire dragging a trail of spark.” which suggests that something like an asteroid such as Planet X or Nibiru will hit our Earth.
Will this date of December 21, 2012 be dismissed like other prophecies such as the Y2K? Or will this date really be the end of the world? That is for you to decide.
