World War III Could Happen

When and how?

I posed a silly question at my friend the other day. “What do you think is going to cause World War III?” He answered back without much of a thought,”It would never happen.” A little frustrated I said, “What IF?” stressing on the word “if” least he gives me a silly answer again. His eyes darted around the room – a common expression to show his thinking pattern. Surely I gave him a question to think about. Then finally he said, “hatred, money and power”. I looked at him with my eyes demanding an explanation. For which he replied,” Racial hatred or hatred in any form emerging from discrimination. Money – the rich countries want to get richer and keep the underdeveloped and developing countries at the dwarfed level of economy. Power – Who doesn’t want it? C’mon, if I thought I had more nuclear weapons than you and if you tease or taunt me, I’d probably drop a nuclear shell or two on you…” and he burst out laughing at the idea of me being blown to pieces. Then again, I could only imagine the dust clearing and smoke dissipating where I’d still be standing there unaffected and smiled. I said, ” you are wrong. There is another way WW3 could take place.”

At this point he gave me a rolling eye expression which clearly said, “OK Miss Knows-more-than-me, bring it on”. “Global warming”. “What?!” “Yes, Global Warming.” “What crap?” “No, it is possible.” Here’s how:

By 2040 only a small amount of sea ice will remain along the north coasts of Greenland and Canada, while most of the rest of the ocean basin will remain ice free through the summer. Click here for the source.

The Arctic, sub-Saharan Africa, island nations, and densely populated river-delta regions in Asia are the areas at highest risk, the experts warned. Ecosystems severely threatened by rising temperatures include coral reefs, mountains, sea ice, and tundra.

  • More than a billion people may face freshwater shortages by 2050, especially in Asia, where rising living standards will lead to increased water demand.
  • Millions more will be threatened by floods due to rising sea levels, with island inhabitants and populations in large river-delta regions in Asia most at risk.
  • Mountain ecosystems could lose more than half of their wildlife species by 2080 if greenhouse gas emissions continue unchecked, with winter tourism set to dwindle along with snow cover and glaciers.

Some hundred million people live within 3 feet (1 meter) of mean sea level, and much of the world’s population is concentrated in vulnerable coastal cities. In the U.S., Louisiana and Florida are especially at risk.

The ocean’s circulation system, known as the ocean conveyor belt, could be permanently altered, causing a mini-ice age in Western Europe and other rapid changes.

I may be a person clearly effected by Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, but there seems to be an obvious scientific backing to the whole scenario. Why I see WW3 happening due to global warming is but obvious. Hatred, money or power face no competition to the word – survival. If there’s going to be so many drastic changes in the world, probably changing the face of the earth we see today, for soul survival, people would engage in war. If this unfortunate thing is capable of happening in less than 30 years, I do not understand why people are so cool about it.

Maybe it is time we opened our eyes and realised the worst can be avoided. We have to help ourselves today if we do not want the next generation and the generation after that to perish. We need to set the right path for them and equip them with knowledge on how to face calamities.True, many of us may not be around to see it happen. Brave are those who set the right path for the generations to come instead of cowardly standing in the dark, waiting for our time to be up and let the forthcoming generations suffer for what we have done.

I say, World War 3 is in the making because of our carelessness. I say, we can stop it from happening. This is my opinion, what’s yours??

I can’t say I whole-heartedly buy the global warming paranoia, or that it might lead us to WW3, but a great thought-provoking arguement, Kaavs.

Very well written Kaavs. Who know what will actually cause WWIII if it so be it happens. But I can say, I do not think we would be prepared, when you think of it, how many are actually prepared just for our own natural elements now, like Earthquakes, Tornado’s, Floods. Not many. I even live in California, known for Earthquakes, and can tell you honestly, if one came tomorrow, I would not be prepared.

Interesting, though surely you must know by now that most scientists have changed their views to accept the fact that global warming, if happening, is not man-made. It is merely a part of the global heating and cooling cycles that have been naturally occuring on Earth for the past 6 billion years. So no, actually, we can’t stop it. Present political situations seem to indicate that the world will be a smoking pile of rubble contaminated with nuclear radiation by 2050 anyway.
WWIII is much more likely to be a religious war, against modern governments that try to stop religion. It will be caused by something much deeper than a natural event, trust you me.
