Zeitgeist Movement and Venus Project
Can we improve our world? How can we do it?
A recent conversation I had on Reddit reguarding this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bKScE58r_w&t=4m50s

I know what you’re getting at, but I think his “circular cities” which are meant to provide everything humans need are very far fetched. Not all people have the same needs. We need a society where we can have a mix of many different ideas, not just one man’s vision of a perfect society. The monetary system, and the way we have exploited the earth need to change, but at the same time we must remember that we are humans, with faults, different needs and inperfect “by design”. To enforce this kind of society would not be much better than to enforce capitalism. Maybe for the earth, but not for humankind. I don’t think that we ever can agree to compromise this much until we all are replaced by robots. (Pardon my english)

You have a point. I think we both can agree that:
If humanity follows the fast money, we’re doomed. Technology isn’t just a consumer product. It’s also needed for our survival and it should be used that way, whenever possible.

There are so many misconceptions about Venus Project and Zeitgeist Movement… there are so many things to read and so many video to listen that maybe people lose their willing to acquire more knowledge about these projects… I’ll try to answer to some of your implicit questions: Circular cities are just a model, a project, one of the bests we know at this time to improve transportations, that’s the main fact. Them are not a rule. Fresco always says (in his books and during interviews) that differencies is very needed, but not the kind of difference we have today, which is kinda stupid: right or left in politics and things like that… He never said that he has the perfect design for the perfect society, but just that, for what we know about technologies today, that is one of the best way to go. He never said to have the truth, he just said that he spent his life for researching a way to make this world better by redesigning our society… it was something we needed, no matter when. Robots are “slowly” replacing humans in repetitive works, that’s why we have a so high unemployement, and with capitalism this will have a disastrous impact on our lifestyle. In a society that see “work” in a completely different way, and that equally distributes technology around the earth so that everyone can have what he needs, this wouldn’t be something to be worried of. People should learn to really understand things and take what it is good about a person that is trying to give a different vision of things. If Fresco is not proposing a society you like, that’s fine. But he gives you the basis to think about another type of society on the technical and social aspects. So, what really matters is this: we must come to a society that shares knowledge and resources and that produce everything basing on what the planet can give us, to do this we have to wake up people and make them understand that we need to change to survive and further evolve as a specie. I know we can do this, we just need to go out there, talk with people, and find what we have lost: fraternity. We’re all humans and that is sufficient to make us love everyone. Sorry for my English.
