Not really. But that’s what a lot of politicians and some religious folks want you to believe. I understand that some might think that same sex intercourse  is wrong and disgusting. And that same sex marriage is even worse and a sin to many, because of The Bible.

In such an advanced day and time we’re in, we still can’t accept the homσsexual community to its fullest. To allow them to marry, adopt, reproduce in the ways that they can (Google it, it’s called Test Tube), and being accepted in most aspects of life. The reason why I say most is because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I don’t think that oppressing someone because of their sexuality or full on violent discrimination is correct.

Okay, but lets rewind. The Bible obviously plays a big role in this. Many politicians are fighting against the approval of same sex marriage in their states. And many followers in religious groups are backing them up. I’m perfectly fine with people not liking homσsexuals. I don’t really care if you do or if you don’t. I just find it very uncomfortable that religion plays a big role in why many American’s are refused rights that they should have. Because that’s what they are. Americans. They pay taxes, they work hard like the rest of us, they vote, they consume, and they are legally entitled to rights.

When I think about this, it reminds me of reading in history books about how African Americans were so discriminated. We once thought that marriage between a different race as your own was wrong, but guess what. Love overpowered that. So why can’t it over power this? Even though I don’t entirely believe in his existence, God promoted the one thing that I truly admire. Love. And how you should morally treat someone now matter how different they are from you.

So why has the word of God turned so twisted into the fact that we’ve had people acting violently towards homσsexuals? To the point where it has been fatal. Watching television and seeing ads on anti-same sex marriage laws that are said to “protect the meaning of marriage.” And this is what I mean:

There are a lot of things that bug me about that ad. Shall we go through them? (Yes)

1. Where the young gal says, “My freedom will be taken away,” with a soft slightly scared face, I paused the video. I thought hard about this. What the hell does she mean? If we let gay people marry will straight people be denied marriage or some shit? What do you lose?
2. “I’m a California doctor who must chose between my faith, or my job.” Really? I don’t….understand that logic. But okay.
3. “I am apart of a New Jersey church group punished by the government because we can’t support same sex marriage.” You don’t say. Well, most gays are punished everyday. By religious folks discriminating them to being denied the legal right to marry the one they love. So I say: Vendetta.
4. “But some who advocate for same sex marriage have not been contempt with same sex couples living as they wish, “ says again the soft slightly scared woman.
   “Those advocates want to change the way I live,” says another female with short hair. I pause the video, again. Oh my God! …What? Will you be marrying a person as the same sex as you? No, right? So then what’s the problem? Your life won’t change. All that will change is your state of mind having to process the fact that you can’t beat the Bill of Rights, G.
5. “But we have hope. A rainbow of creed and coalition of people in every creed and color are coming together in love to protect marriage.” Okay One: Leave the rainbow thang to the gays. You’ve taken away their rights, let the rainbow go son.  Two: Do you really need love to empower you to hate on others? Last time I checked, marriage was about love. Which is what you’re fighting for!
6. The small print at one point in the video that comes out in the bottom that reads: The stories these actors are telling are based on real incidents. LOL.

Number six was the comic relief in the spark of anger and confusion this video caused. Look, gays aren’t out to get you. They’re not out to destroy your family or the functionality of the United States. They just want the same rights and equality that all other Americans such as themselves should have. You can’t deny someone something that belongs to them. You can’t ignore the Bill of Rights, The Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. Who do you think you are, Cheney? (Well, maybe you are/do) Point is, how does another persons life effect yours? How does a married couple in your city ruin your every waking day and night? It doesn’t for me. You know why, because I live my own life. I understand that some parents are afraid that the exposure might create some thoughts and confusion in their pretty little heads. Like acceptance, treating others the way you want to be treated, that Mr.Jones is still a great teacher and you should look up to him academically even though he is in love with another man who he is married to, and all that other jazz.

There are other ads out there that are just as absurd as this one. Some mentioning the idea that gays are targeting your straight family and endangering them. Yeah – That’s pretty low. And untrue. Because if it were true, you would hear stories about lesbians beating up straight men and women. Or gay men shoving your kids because they have straight parent. But you don’t. Instead you see stories like how James Durbin brutally attacked another male just because that male happened to be openly gay.

I understand that many think and feel that it’s wrong to allow gay couples the opportunity to marry. But is it so wrong that we have to legally recognize this? The meaning of marriage still stays the same whether it’s between a man and a woman or a man and man. It still means devotion, love, dedication, and family. It also means that one or the other is dominant in bed. And that sometimes, your significant other gets on your god damn nerves because they keep spending cash to buy whatever they think looks good on them. It also means that the other can’t fix something as simple as a leaky facet.

So you know what I say? Let the gays get married. Let them suffer just like all the straight married couples do. Because you know at one point – It’s hell.
