GLBTQ by Choice? I Don’t Think So

by Aisling in Gay & Lesbians, March 17, 2008

Reasons why being homosexuals cannot be a choice.

Here are but a few reasons why people should realize that being a homosexual

a trans or a bisexual are not choices but something inherited at birth.

  1. Homophobes

Really, does anyone truly believe that people choose to be confronted with such

a thing as homophobes? We do not have fun in being called sick, perverted, even

being compared to pedophiles at times, and every other bad thing you can think of.

  2. Denied Rights

So, apparently we choose to not be allowed to marry the person we love, we choose

not to have the right to see them if they are in hospital, we choose not to be able

to inherit their house or goods if the person dies…

Oh and of course we choose to pay taxes that will pay schools and teachers that our

we will never use, since we are not even allowed to have or adopt children in some countries.

  3. Families

Yes, sure, it is so fun to be thrown out of your own house by your own parents and be

wished all kind of curses from aids to death…yes, definitely something someone would

    decide to choose, right?

  4. Displays of Affection

That’s just lovely when you are out with your loved one and you cannot hold their hand because

the usual bunch of ignorants will make some insulting remark, spit at you, beat you, kill you.

Yes anyone would choose that after all, right?

These are only 4 but there would be many more such as religion, such as lost friendships and so on…

I just picked the bigger ones…I hope it can open some eyes on this situation and make some people

understand that being GLBT is all but a choice…the real choice lays in accepting oneself.

*GLBT= Gay, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgenders, Queers

My baby, well 17 year old, was a lesbian and she had a tough time. I didn’t care about her sexual preference, to me she was just my baby, but of course others didn’t react the same way I did. I wish people would just live thier own lives and not everyone elses. My baby took her life and I bet all of those people who pushed her away now wish they hadn’t.

Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your baby … people can be so cruel about something like this … it is terrible … a big hug to you and my thoughts to your baby :’(

I’m so sorry for your loss Jennifer :( I think it’s the worst thing in the world that people can make their fellow man feel that low. There’s no need for it and it completely boggles my mind why there has to be hate like that.

Good article, you took the words right out of my mouth. But I don’t think queer is part of GLBT, as some may consider it an insult.
