Let’s Get Political [Prop 8]
With election so close, I would like to express some views on proposition eight.
We’ve all seen them, I’m sure, the little yellow signs urging us to vote YES on proposition 8. But how many of us have truly thought about it? The proposition, I mean.
To start with the basics, proposition 8 would take away the right for gay people to marry in order to protect traditional marriage.
Traditional marriage? A sanctioned union between a man and a woman. Not a man and a man or a woman and a woman, but a man and a woman. Why? Because the Bible said so.
If you happen to be a devout Christian, you would agree, right? You’ve read the bible and it clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. If one commits a sexual impurity, on will not get into heaven. [Corinthians 6:9]. The bible then provides numerous examples of wild parties where homosexual acts are committed. It is ALWAYS viewed in a negative way and urges us to stay away from it. It states that homosexuality is also a CHOSEN sin, meaning people willingly choose to sin against God by being gay. From this, it sounds like all homosexual people are headed for eternal damnation.
As for the marriage between gay people? Well, obviously God said NO to that when he created Adam and Eve, right? I mean, that’s what the bible said, right? “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man” [Genesis 2:21-24]. What does this have to do with marriage? Yes God created a woman from a man, but it doesn’t state anywhere that God opposes the marriage between homosexuals.
The bible then goes on to state “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”[John 3:16]. Am I the only who sees the contradiction here? Wouldn’t this mean that if a homosexual person believes in God he would have salvation? Oh, wait, no. He’s already damned because of his orientation. But then he could be saved if he repented his sin by asking forgiveness and stop being homosexual. Basically lying to yourself and to God about what you truly are. That doesn’t quite work. Last I heard, lying was also a sin. So, essentially, you’re screwed if you’re homosexual, right?
