Let’s Talk About It….transgender Rights

Transgendered woman fights for benefits of dead husband.

Thomas and Nikkia Araguz  In Wharton, TX a transgendered woman fights for her deceased husband’s insurance benefits. Same sex marriages are not recognized in Texas. The deceased firefighter, Thomas Araguz III, was killed in a fire as he served as a volunteer employee. Some family members allege that Mr. Araquz had recently seperated from his wife because he had just learned that she was born a man. Mrs. Araguz alleges that her husband knew that she had been born a man and accepted her and loved her as his wife.

The legal argument that is being used is that the Araquz’s marriage was not valid and therefore, she is not entitled to the benefits. Mr. Araquz’s mother is fighting to have the benefits of approximately $600,000 go to his two sons from a previous marriage.  No matter what side of the gay, transgendered, argument you believe in the children should receive some benefit from their father. The bigger and more important issue is taking care of these two young boys and providing for their well being.

Let’s talk about it….what do you think is the right thing to do?
