…my two cents worth: the hidden reality behind all the evangelical uproar is less about what they think God has said and really about how emotionally uncomfortable they are with a minority (about 1% of the USA population) that is not the same as them.

Which brings to mind the concept of spiritual development is about growing tolerance and understanding of those different from ourselves. Since it is God who knows the hearts of all of us, maybe we just ought to allow God to sort things out when we all get to Heaven, don’t you think? I’m a big fan of erring on the side of love and wisdom as it is a life well lived, and, steeped in joy.

We cannot say that “God” says it is wrong, we only know that the people who wrote the Bible said that “God” said it is wrong, and then too it depends which “version” of the Bible you follow, or if you follow your heart.

According to the Bible you are also suppose to kill people who wear different kinds of fabrics (eg. wool and cotton) at the same time! And should the laws then only apply to people who believe in God?

God says it’s wrong. That trumps any “argument” you could ever consider. God is beyond your logic.

to clarify, I am straight and married a second time, after my first husband passed away, I just think its ignorant the way some straight people try to police everybody else, when really the law does not affect them.

Great article with a good point. Do you know how many gay couples foster children that no one wants. They make great parents. As a straight friend of many gay friends, I am proud to be a part of the family. Thanks for you work.

Thank you for this article, and I agree with you completely. It is ridiculous to say that marriage is only about having children.
