Respecting Our Fellow Americans: Giving Back Gay Rights

Living in America we have what are called “civil rights” which have passed down through the decades, been added to and have been an extremely important part of realizing the freedoms America has given her people.

Living in America we have what are called “civil rights” which have passed down through the decades, been added to and have been an extremely important part of realizing the freedoms America has given her people.  Sometimes, though, we forget the rights due to other people.  When women wanted rights they were fought against.  When African Americans wanted rights they were fought against. Now homosexuals are clamoring for gay rights equal to any other couple.  Gay rights have been ignored in many states as homosexual couples try for marriage rights and having their own children.

While America is all about freedom we have a hard time accepting change.  That is the reason behind so many civil right fights in the past.  Because homosexuals are not a traditional couple they feel their gay rights are being denied them.  As Americans how can we discourage men and women from making decisions and acting upon their desires so long as they aren’t taking away the rights of others?

Some states are recognizing gay rights and opening their laws to include marriage between man and man (or woman and woman) as acceptable and recognized by the government.  While some people may argue that all states need to be just as accepting, the fact that there are some states willing to accept gay rights is proof that America is opening up to accepting even more diversity in this country all about giving freedom to all people.

You probably know someone that has expressed homosexual feelings and whether you agree or not with such practices you should be courteous enough to respect someone’s decision.  That’s part of gay rights that many people over look.  Homosexuals have a right to be respected, just as any other being.  Just as it’s ludicrous to tell “black” jokes or “women” jokes it should be seen the same way with “gay” jokes.

It doesn’t matter if you agree with the sexual choice of homosexuals or not the point is that because they are human beings and because they live in America they have every right to the same freedoms and privileges every other American has.  Gay rights have now been put into question.  Now is the time to decide to actually give gay rights as should already exist.  Because of the actions of some individuals many of the gay rights that should exist have been taken away and right now the time has come that we should be giving them back.
