A discussion on the best resort for singles on the Mediterranean.

The med is one of the most splendid locations on the planet for finding true love and romance, from the french riviera  to the Italian Riviera for most of the last century the med has proven to be a haunting ground for those seeking love and romance.

If we consider the range of locations of destinations available, the Greek Islands have always been popular and large tracks of the Spanish coast are a boom however they are mainly targeted at the family package traveller.

Living in Barcelona we have quite possibly the ideal location for the gay traveler in search of romance and fun.

Situated 40 minutes from the center of Barcelona is the beautiful old fishing village of Sitges.

Set on the Mediterranean coast this quaint and romantic resort features everything the single traveler craves.

Idyllic beaches, superb weather and wonderful Mediterranean cuisine featuring fresh fish and local specialties is contrasted with a vibrant night life.

Home of Pacha the famous nightclubbing group which originated in Sitges in 1967 and is now most well known for one of the two top clubs on the island of Ibiza, it still boasts a heavy presence in Sitges.

Packed with boutique hotels, and featuring numerous gay friendly establishments, Sitges provides an ideal location.

As well as boasting a large expatriate community Sitges is famous for hosting the international film festival each autumn specializing in movies of horror or sci-fiction genre.

In addition Sitges and its palm lined beaches some of which are for the exclusive use of the gay community, features a wonderful carnival taking place each  February.

This cultural, dynamic oasis has more than four thousand five hundred hotel beds and in July and August gay men and lesbians from throughout Europe visit what can be considered one of the most popular gay resorts in Europe, this cosmopolitan beach resort also has a significant expat population primarily from the Netherlands, Great Britain and Scandinavia.

Whilst holidaying in Sitges make sure you visit the beautiful city of Barcelona which is only a short train ride away, where you can view some of the most spectacular architecture.

Foodies will delight in the range of local cuisine featuring fresh fish and other produce from the local area such as xato which is a typical Catalan sauce made from almonds, hazelnuts, garlic and is often served with an endive salad prepared with anchovies, tuna and codfish.

So to recap for the gay singleton in search of romance in the Mediterranean I can think of no other finer location than the wonderful resort of Sitges.
