Speech About Transgender Discrimination
This is an enthralling speech about transgender discrimination which I have written.
Karin: When most people hear the word transgender or transsexual they instantly start to think about funny names to call people and in general just start to mentally mock a person. So today Clarissa and I are going to be telling you about the seriousness of being discriminatory towards another member of the human race whose only crime in your mind is that they are a transsexual.
Clarissa: The following are some examples of discrimination which can be inflicted upon transgender.
- When applying for a job you are treated fairly because in all truth there is nothing wrong with a transgender.
- When trading in shops restaurants and public places you are treated no differently to other members of the public.
- Application to a State educational centre e.g. schools, your application not be looked upon with distaste.
Karin: Vilification is when a person or persons display demeaning comments about someone which are intended to hurt the person that they are inflicted upon.
Three examples of this concerning transgender include.
- The media making unjust remarks about transgender.
- Making speeches in a public space about transgender that is intended to upset transgender.
- Demeaning graffiti concerning transgender.
Clarissa: The law is defiantly on your side if you are a transgender. You cannot be unjustly treated in public places, be reject for a educational or job application because you are a transgender and you are not be called demeaning and discriminatory names or have a complaint made against you if you are a transgender.
Karin: An example of a case involving discrimination against transgender handled by the Anti-Discrimination Board is a woman who worked in a retail company was looked upon less favourable by her employer because he knew that she was a transgender and he had issues with paying a ‘weirdo’ The employer even went as far as advertising her job when she had no intention of resigning. She took her case to the Anti-Discrimination Board and the employer was made to review his anti-discrimination policies and had to pay the woman $4,000 as compensation. Thanks for listening!
