Britain: A Resounding No! to The Alternative Voting System
We’ve said "no" to the AV referendum, but did we actually have all the information? Was there a biased campaign against it? An analysis of Britain’s vote against AV. Read More…

Most of this seems to be unnoticed by the majority as personal politics have clouded judgement, for example Nick Clegg’s support of AV has clearly influenced some people’s opinions negatively.
What’s interesting about the statistics of the majority of the population within the countries who have it of this alternative voting system is that they are wholly unreliable. Anti-AV campaigners are trying to claim that around 70% of Australia wish to have conventional first-past-the-post election methods. That’s just false.
The vast majority are happy with the Alternative Voting, but knowing people in Australia, even dating one, and doing a little research into it (which is difficult, because they don’t call it “Alternative Voting System” or any similar such titles, it’s just “Voting System”), uncovers the fact that when they say they are unhappy with the system, they are referring to an entirely irrelevant part of their voting procedures called the “2 party preferred” which doesn’t need explaining here as it would only confuse matters still further.
Basically, the opinion polls that have been really bastardised into making us believe that Australia and Tasmania hate the voting system which we are proposing, but that is a complete fabrication based on irrelevant opinion polls about a related, but not relevant aspect of their political system which wouldn’t be introduced, were the vote to have swayed the other way. Guess what! Either politicians don’t have a clue about this stuff or they just outright lie about it. Who would-a thunk it?

Clueless politicians? Politicians who lie? Surely not in England! I thought all of the liars and cheats got sent to Australia 2 or 3 generations ago. And now you are looking to their ancestors for help in restructuring the parliament of the Mother Country?
You should look to Canada instead. Our multi-party system makes certain that no politician ever gets anything done. When we have a minority government, the opposition parties oppose whatever the leaders do. It\’s their job. They make sure that the party in power won\’t be able to keep any of their promises, so that when an election is called, the opposition calls to the public attention the fact that the party in power is useless.
Now that we have our first majority government in decades, we\’ll see how this works out.

That would be the descendants of the Australians, not their ancestors. I hate that we can’t edit these comments.
