California Government
The ways the government of California and its decisions affect my own life.
As a citizen, it ensures my safety and well being so that I may focus on my personal and immediate interests and responsibilities, such as being a wife, parent and student. I’ve always felt so fulfilled with California’s gorgeous geographical aspects, but as I have gotten on in the years, I have began to take note and grow fond of some our state’s finest citizens. Some of the main political players, our newly-re-elected governor, our female senators and our Secretary of State McPherson, have all been responsible in making positive political contributions to this great state. I can’t think of a better state in which to finish raising my children, continuing both theirs and my education, and growing old with my spouse in.
I’ll start with Governor Schwarzenegger. He has taken action to make sure California will be ready in case a disaster strikes by recently participating in the Golden Guardian Exercise Series is held every year. It was first introduced in 2004 and allows multiple response and prevention agencies from all branches of government to coordinate in a simulated environment.
,
The goal of the Golden Guardian Exercise Series is to build upon the lessons learned from this and subsequent exercises throughout the nation, as well as real-world events to be better prepared in the event of an actual emergency. Golden Guardian is critical for our state because it will help the people of California to respond in a collaborative and effective way if and when the next flood, earthquake, wildfire, pandemic illness or terror attack occurs. This year’s exercise included more than 1,500 participants representing 105 local, state and federal agencies including our San Bernardino County.
Participants include local first responders, hazardous materials teams, police and firefighters, and emergency medical specialists. Another step Governor Schwarzenegger has taken to improve the state’s emergency preparedness and response is securing more than $1 billion in federal funds for homeland security and public health. I think that raising my children in this state is the right decision for their future goals to be realized I feel very reassured to know that I live in a state that leads the nation in high-tech jobs and exports, which totaled approximately $50 billion last year alone!
Since communications companies and the technology industry are central to California’s financial health and because California relies on broadband to support the technological innovations and e-commerce that drive its economic growth, I’m sure the job market in this field will also continue to flourish.
I’m also grateful that two great women politicians, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. Are always hard at work to make positive strides for California’s sake. Boxer is always keeping a watchful eye on our clean air and water standards. Her continuous dedication to global warming is a reassuring sign that she really cares about our future. Feinstein has been a strong supporter of the Pell grant, and this is a grant that has enabled me to continue my education. She is also cares a great deal about California’s environment and natural resources.
I am new to our Secretary of State’s political ideals, but the stability that Secretary Bruce McPherson has provided to the office has earned high praise from numerous observers throughout the country.
Secretary McPherson seems to have restored trust and confidence to the Office of Secretary of State. He has proven this praise by rebuilding relationships with federal, state and local partners. He has also become a national leader in election reform by helping to develop innovative ways to ensure the integrity of every vote and to make government more efficient and customer friendly for all Californians.
Because I have become more informed over the years, I like what I have discovered. I delight in the positive political atmosphere that encompasses California. Sure, there are always going to be some rough spots, but our politicians always seem to get us through. We are fortunate to be served by selfless and efficient California government agents. They make such important decisions for us on a daily basis, you can’t get much more personal than that!
