Co2: France Well Placed Thanks to New Vehicles

The European air would be less polluted by traffic? In any case, between 2009 and 2010, emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere fell five grams per kilometer (g / km) on average. The design of new vehicles that produce less CO2 – the cars but also more and more vehicles – combined with the efforts of some countries, explain this new trend downward. In this matter, France has positioned itself in second place behind Portugal. However, manufacturers in the automotive industry are not all the same. Explanations.

Portugal has taken the lead in a very contemporary competition. That of the least polluted countries in Europe, in terms of average CO2 emissions by new cars. A study conducted in 2010 in 21 European countries – including 19 members of the European Union, the firm specialized company JATO, CO2 emissions have averaged 127.4 g / km in the country.

France for its part, mounted on the second step of the podium. In 2008, a bonus / malus green was introduced in the hexagon for new cars. Objective: To encourage the purchase of cleaner vehicles. In 2010, new cars traveling in the Hexagon emitted an average of 130g/km. Back of the pack, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. New vehicles registered in these countries produced the same year, more than 150 g CO2 per km. However Sweden is revealed, in return, the country had made the most effort. It has reduced its emissions of 41g/km between 2005 and 2010.

Fiat ® top

Over 60% of new cars sold in 2010 in 21 countries reached an average of 140.9 g / km. In 2003, the proportion was only 23% dees new vehicles. And that “despite the increase in size, level of equipment, safety and performance of most models,” says the firm JATO.

These vehicles were developed by 20 automakers. They all improved their performance in terms of CO2 emissions. But not with the same results. From this work, the cars built by Fiat in 2010 ® produced 123.1 g / km. The show is the lowest. Returning to the largest Mercedes ®, 172.2 g / km. However, the largest drop back to Volvo ®. The Swedish industrialist, in fact, has reduced its CO2 emissions of 13.8 g / km in just one year.

And French brands? Models of Peugeot and Citroën ® ® produce about 131 g / km and those of Renault ®, 134 g / km. Too far from the goals – set by the European Union – according to the group of manufacturers by 2015. PSA Peugeot Citroën ® should aim 125.2 g / km and Renault ®, 123.4 g / km.
