Do You Feel Some Corruption is Necessary?
Although corruption occurs in possibly every town in America and is sometimes overlooked, it does not have to be accepted.
It was a conversation that began innocently enough. We were discussing the options of beginning a small business and life in a small town when the question arose, “Don’t you think some corruption is necessary?” It hit me like a ton of bricks but I was prepared to answer. Although corruption occurs in possibly every town in America and is sometimes overlooked, it does not have to be accepted. Yes, it is possible that some of it is minor and will never affect the people of that community. However in most cases corruption not only hurts the people of the community, it also taints the integrity within that community.
Being involved in my community to the degree that I am I have become more aware of the things that will often leave a sour taste in the mouths of us who feel the world should be a better place. However I won’t accept and just walk away. The response of my friend was to just leave this town, which I have come to love, and the people whom I now consider my extended family. He says it will never get better and it has just always been that way. Of course, he no longer resides in this area and for quite sometime he hasn’t seen the love that is plentiful in this community.
Now, look at your hometown and ask yourself if corruption is just a part of what comes with it or is there something you can do to rid your community of the greatest evils within it. My resounding answer, to my friend and to those who believe corruption just has to be accepted and overlooked, is and will continue to be, not in my world.
