Federalist-Hamiltonian Restoration of Constitutional Republican Government

Discussion of the suggested need to restore original constitutionalism to America.

A creative Federalist-Hamiltonian restoration, a resurgence or renewal, of what used to be popularly known and defended as constitutional republican government is, it is suggested here, rather urgently needed. It would be, properly and logically, Federalist in its rigorous upholding the original intentions for the second and still present American Constitution of 1789 (the first one actually being the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union of 1781).

The idea of proper federalism, involved with the federalist principle of decentralized and, thus, limited government, is to be defended as fully consistent with American political ideals and practice, with historically understood republican order.

The acknowledgement of the Hamiltonian part is an appropriately fitting and logical tribute to the often appreciated genius of the Honorable Mr. Alexander Hamilton, possibly the greatest political intellect that this nation has ever had involved with national affairs concerning nation-building efforts.

Although Hamilton had objections to the document, the then proposed Constitution, he still had rigorously ended up defending it adamantly and its conception of free and limited government; constitutional government, by the way, used to mean limited government, by definition, because such governance, by a deliberately written charter of freedoms and liberties, was, thus, meant to be legally circumscribed both by what that document permitted and, also, by what it prohibited; unfortunately, few people now know this needed political and historical truth, regarding political epistemology pertaining to written constitutions, which were, in fact, not functionally designed to ever be infinitely plastic, as is the totally erroneous, anti-historical concept today.

The restoration part concerns going back to the original and historically verified intent of the US Constitution that was meant to achieve a continuing and dynamic balancing of the governments of the Sovereign States with the national government, which latter term today gets denominated as the Federal government; neither, however, was meant to subordinate the other, with the exception of federal and international matters pertaining to the existence of the USA, as with, e.g., interstate commerce or legitimate national defense of the Republic.

A requisite definition: The true idea of actual federal government, as it needs to be understood, is a dedicated polity of coordinated and, where appropriate, combined efforts of both the Sovereign States acting with and, as needed, through the national government in a joint political process of governance for the entire nation.  Such a definition is, moreover, quite soundly appropriate for rightly acknowledging the prerequisite conditions and circumstances, needed for properly sustaining federalism as the ideal to be upheld regarding all subordinate practices, within the political system.
