Freedom Involves Restraint
Liberty is the result of law – not, as many suppose, the absence of law.
Freedom in and of itself is a bad thing; bad people- murderers,
slander mongers, crooks- criminals- they are the people who
want any sort of freedom most of all. Real freedom is the free-
dom of the person to do the right thing.
The problem with freedom involves a problem of restraint.
Absolute freedom for each man and woman, each group
means also freedom to encroach upon the liberties of others.
In no state can absolute freedom be allowable.
Freedom to accumulate property does not include freedom to
use it as we please. Freedom to drive automobiles does not
license us to go at any speed or go through traffic lights.
Freedom of speech is not freedom to cry "Fire!" in a crowded
theater. The paradox of freedom is its dependence on
restraint; otherwise it is quite obvious to all of us that freedom
equals anarchy.

Liberty doesn’t come from law and government, it comes from asserting ownership of oneself and the products of ones’ time, talents and efforts.
Anarchy is liberty. Whereas the government robs me to pay for my own persecution, an insurance agency or tuath is voluntary. I pay them or perhaps other voluntary organizations and individuals for protection of myself and property and arbitration of disputes. Or perhaps I enter a security organization which does not require a monetary fee for membership but rather that I devote a certain amount of time to security of my fellow members. The possibilities are endless for provision of goods and services that were once the dominion of government in a free market world.

Fascists. Andy, Johnathan, Maiden, you’ll all deny it but you’ve been reading the wrong texts. Maiden, what you’re saying is that the human race is essentially a gang of murderers and need to be controlled or we’d all run amok. That would imply that if anyone could ever get away with any crime, they would automatically commit it regardless of any other factors; the idea of ‘limited’ freedom is like saying a prisoner in his cell is ‘free; free to use his toilet bucket, free to stare at the ceiling, free to ring a tune on the bars.
Andy, John, your ideas echo Anarcho-capitalism, not true Anarchy. You’re talking about private security firms running the police and the government. Seriously, do you think crime would go down if the police and judiciary pay were linked to arrests and convictions? Do you really want to privatise the police, to throw open policing and the law itself to being bought up by Virgin and Sky? That would enahnce personal freedom, would it? SERIOUSLY?

As history proves a steady decline in self-restraint, self-discipline, hardness of hearts, lack of empathy, love grown cold for one’s fellow-man… Mankind is seeing more and more consciences being seared as with a hot iron. Do you have children, JC? Ever hear of an organisation called: NAMBLA- North American Man/Boy Love Association. They want congress to pass a law to legalize sexual relations between adults and children.
I guess what I’m saying is this: Society has already run amok!.
