Guatemala Weather Turned Cold in January

Antigua Guatemala offers the feel of spring most of the year. However January 2012 came in with a cold front that has sat over parts of Guatemala for the last few days. While the day time temperatures have hit 70 degrees the evening have seen the temps drop to 50 degrees in Antigua and much cooler in the Guatemala Highlands.

The weather for the next few days in Antigua suggests depending on which weather site you review that by the weekend temps will hit in the mid 70 Degree mark, however rain and drizzle is in the forecast for the weekend and heading into the early part of next week.

With this cold front parked over Antigua the need for heat at night is obvious. In our villa at http://whereisantiguaguatemala.com/. yesterday was spent stocking up on firewood. Yes most homes in Antigua do not have a heating system. Well they have a heating system to deal with the few times of the year that the weather drops in Antigua. The heating system is a fireplace.

In our home we have a large fireplace in the main part of the Villa. This adequately heats the room son the main floor. In our master bedroom we have a smaller fireplace that keeps us very comfortable on these cool Antigua nights in early January.

Firewood is available in quantity at the Antigua Market on the west side of the city. The Market has if one can imagine areas that are dedicated to specific products firewood being one of them. Yesterday was firewood day and we set off to our supplier of choice Poala, a lovely woman that nows her wood and loves to barter. At first we have the greeting a few hugs and then the price haggling begins. I start with how much Firewood I want and she starts with how many Quetzals she wants. We always meet in the middle some place. We load our firewood I get a hug from Poala and until next time.

Home at our Villa we had a nice fire last night to take the coolness off our Villa while this cool weather in Antigua Guatemala persists.
