How Protective is Our Government?

Are the governments actions truly for our safety?

As technology advances, the government becomes more and more intrusive for the sake of our “safety”. But who is to draw the line on all this; is it we the people? No says the man in Washington, he insists that we remain in a state of rapture, while he decides what is best. An example of this is currently in major American cities. Many cameras are being put up to prevent crime; but who is to stop the government from using this to peer into our daily lives in order to “protect” us further. First it is merely watching the streets, which can develop into watching our every movement, as this would “protect” us. This would continue until America is a disutopian society as portrayed in George Orwell’s 1984. These actions by our government, to “protect” us, would mirror the actions of the government portrayed in 1984, like the telescreens, the cameras would watch us, in order to keep us in line, thus making society “better”. However, if the people were to rise against this movement, the surveillance would theoretically have an end, right? Wrong, the technology will continue to advance, and with advancing technology we the people need an advancing surveillance system, provided to us by our ever so kind government. After all, we do want to be safe, don’t we?

I agree, the government has no right to continually increase their monitoring on us under the pretext of safety. I mean, they over use the term safety. Look at airport security, it actually doesn’t make us any safer, you can ask any expert that. You sir, make an excellent point.
