In the U.S., over 2 million people suffer a type of poisoning each year, statistics show. drugs - prescription or released without a prescription – and drugs are a major cause of serious poisoning and related deaths. Other commonly encountered toxic substances are gases , household products, toxic used in agriculture ( herbicides, pesticides ), plants, industrial chemicals, vitamins and food (in particular, some species of mushrooms and fish ). However, almost any substance ingested in large quantities can be toxic.


First Aid• Any person exposed to a toxic gas must be removed from that environment as quickly as possible , preferably in fresh air.• In case of skin and eye contamination, all contaminated clothing should be removed immediately . The skin should be well washed with soap and water. If eyes were exposed, they should rinse with water well. Assist those who need to protect themselves from possible contamination.• If the patient’s condition is serious, should call 112. If necessary, cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be started immediately. If the patient’s condition is very serious, family or colleagues can contact the control center nearest toxicology to obtain information. If the caller knows the substance and the quantity was ingested, treatment can be administered at home.
