Is The Safety of Our Politics at Risk?
Are the politics in today’s world truly safe? In a time where we can see through peoples cloths with scanners and get dogs to sniff out bombs why can’t we protect the most important leaders of our nation?
As we all know today (January 8th 2011) a horriffic event took place in Arizona. At least 6 six people are dead today after the shooting in Arizona and at least a dozen others have been injured. Among the injured was Gabrielle Giffords, a representative to the house.
I don’t want to sit here and take sides politically in this situation. It’s a tradgody and I think we should respect that, no matter which side of the spectrum you’re on. Instead I want to question security. Where was the secret service? This lady had recieved death threats and harassment prior to today’s situation so why was so little done to protect her and the area in this situation? Why did the shooter have enough time to severly injure so many people? Why are we paying these people to not do their job? Were there even guards there with a high prority person in the open? If Hitler could avoid assassination attempt after assassination atempt due to his bodyguards and a little luck why can’t we do the same with someone who is far less of a target?
I want to know from you guys, do you think we should hold whoever was in charge of security for this event responsible for being seemingly slow to the call of action? Or should we go on and remember that sometimes bad things happen and assume that they freaked out and were slow to react?
