Agency for Food and Drug Administration USA (FDA) warns to not just choose a supplement to stimulate muscle growth. Because there are also products that contain synthetic steroids that are harmful to health.
“For those who are already taking these supplements, you should immediately stop,” pleaded the FDA.
The warning was based on a report from the department of health and human services from North Carolina who said there is a serious injury from the use of supplements containing synthetic steroids body shaper. A 28-year-old healthy man who uses the product in a few weeks had kidney failure and in need of organ transplants.
“The product is marketed as a supplement that contains anabolic steroids can be harmful to consumers,” said Howard Sklamberg, director of FDA’s Office of Compliance.
Anabolic steroids are steroid-like substances that if consumed by humans can cause symptoms such as fatigue without cause, abdominal or back pain, discolored urine, and symptoms of other health problems.
Meanwhile, long-term use of anabolic steroids can have an effect on blood lipid levels and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Women who use anabolic steroids will look more masculine.
As well, the effect in men include testicular shrinkage, breast enlargement, and lack of fertility. In children, consumption of anabolic steroids can disrupt the growth process.
