Micronations – Definition and Some Interesting Facts
Definiton of micronation and the list of micronations in the world and some interesting facts about them.
Micronations (model countries) are entities that assume themselves to be independent countries, but are not recognized by any major countries of the world. They are different from microstates, (Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino etc.) which are recognized by other countries, but are smaller in size. Some people in this world have decided for various reasons to create their own nations. Some of the reasons include – to show how a nation should be, for entertainment or to show anger or discontent.
Micronations can also exist in various forms such as in physical form on land, at sea, or in outer space, online, and even in thee creators own mind or any combination of these. Some micronations even issue flags, coins, postal stamps, passports etc. The Republic of Molossia, which is micronation located in Nevada, United States has even a space program, antidiscrimination legislation, and death penalty. Hutt River and Elleore are the micronations, which have their own universities.
The oldest micronation, which is still in existence is the Kingdom of Redonda, founded in 1865 in the Caribbean. Some of the famous micronations include Aerican Empire, Aeterna Lucina, Aramoana, Alantium, Avram, British West Florida, Celestia, Conch Republic, Coperman Empire, Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands, Elleore, EnenKio, Forvik, Hutt River etc. There are many more than listed here.
