Self Government 101

Are you doing anything yet? Maybe you are languishing in the doubts of our economy. Maybe you are in a stall. Can you see yourself happy and busy and successful? Are you building a dream or waiting for a dream? Here are some tips to bring you into the glory of the great American lemon-aide stand stretching out before you.

Step 1: Don’t get lost in the immediate junk.

Sometimes I am dragging and forget what I cannot see. Forgetting what I have to offer others puts me in a stupor of wondering “What am I doing, again?” The bills are piling up, and the evil little accountant sitting on my should nags at me. Money, you need money, it’s all about money.  This is a lie, and you must resist it.

We are designed with hearts and souls and minds, and while every mind is not the same in it’s aptitude, it’s type of intelligence, this is the place we need to live from.  We are not mere money passing machines who live out our days in the pursuit of paying one more overdue bill. Don’t get stuck here, pilgrim, you are much more than this.

Did you ever have an enterprise as a kid? Think about the day when you were bored and it was so hot outside and this crazy idea popped into your skull……Let’s have a lemon-aide stand! Besides the relief of finding something to do (in my day hanging around inside or watching TV was not on the table) there was another spark that tried to ignite, and if you did begin to work out your wonderful idea, the spark of creating something out of nothing was born.

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO DREAM

If I don’t have some seeds of things to do up in my head I am one sad human. I find that I will start to wander from this to that and just never feel like I am on a meaningful path. I start to think that I am some kind of victim who has nothing good available to me, stuck in a dried up plateau with no chances and no help on the horizon. The reason this happens to me? I forgot to dream, I have nothing interesting going on that needs me. You are never stuck. There is always a first step to something cool to take. Remember how simple it was when you were a kid looking for something to do. You found something. You made a fort out of a box, you found a man on your street who paid you to mow, you decided to paint rocks and sell them for a penny. This is the seed.

FIND SOMEONE TO HELP YOU

Maybe you put together your own stand, but I bet you needed some help. I am the great stubborn self-sufficient putz most of the time. One day I realized that everything I have ever done has needed help from others, and that’s the way it should be. There is no such thing as a solitary endeavor, so rid yourself of this illusion right away. Any project needs help from someone experienced to advise, someone who is getting out of what you want to do and happens to have the stuff right there, or Mom, who has the packet of drink mix and the pitcher who says, ok, ok, you can use them just GO OUTSIDE! Then she has to show you how to make it and probably help you set up. But she doesn’t mind that, she is happy to get you on your way. There are people like this all around you and it leads me right to this:
