Single People
Trying to understand the way the government works for single people.
There are many things in this world that simply do not make sense. The main conversation at our table is single people and how they are forgotten or for lack of a better word, screwed.
A single person pays more taxes than a married person.
Single people with no children are taxed even more.
A single person who becomes ill, can not get medical help if they are not elderly or don’t have children.
A single person pays higher car insurance.
A single person has a harder time getting a loan.
I am going to stop there and ask a few questions.
Are single people being punished? If they don’t want to get married for what ever their reason is that wrong?
It is as if because they can’t or choose not to have children they are shut off from benefits the rest of the married mothers and fathers get. How is that right?
I believe if a person chooses to not have children or to be married they should pay less taxes.
And why do they have to pay school taxes if they have no children?
Why don’t single people get a tax break for taking care of themselves and not having 12 kids they can’t support?
Why can’t they get the same if not better benefits than married people, or people with children?
Why is it that people who are single with no children can not get help in the event of job loss, illness, or anything else that could prevent them from being able to support themselves?
I guess I don’t understand.
I think it’s time the government takes a new look at the tax laws, and government assistant programs for single childless people.
No I am not a single childless person, I am the proud mother of two teenagers, and I have a domestic partner with whom I have shared my life with.

Brilliant! I’ve wondered the exact same things myself…as a 48 year old single woman with no children. Despite what anyone who is not single thinks….we do not have it easy. We do EVERYTHING for ourselves and by ourselves, with no breaks. Thanks Renee Michelle for recognizing this phenomenon and stating it so clearly.

My thoughts completely. Thank- you for that article. I\’m single and it\’s really unfair how single people are treated. The taxes they take keeps me living from pay check to pay check. Not to mention my company doesn\’t have health insurance and I can\’t get any help because I don\’t have children, Does everyone have to spit out children to get help.. Instead of using single people\’s tax money for schools, how about using it for single people heath insurance. HOW ABOUT THAT
