Information you might want to know about Social Security Numbers.

Have you ever notice that it seems like everybody is asking you for your Social Security Numbers. Our Social Security Numbers is a unique number for each person for credit and other purposes. But how unique is the number, they do not just pull a number out of thin air and say here you go.

The first three number is called an area number. This number is based on the zip code of the requestors mailing address.

The second two numbers is called the group number. This number is based on the month and year of when the Social Security Numbers was requested.

Finally, the last four number is called the serial number. This number is assigned on a first come, first serve base.

You don’t have to give your Social Security Number to everybody that asks for it. There are some people that it is mandatory to give your Social Security Numbers too. For example; credit application, cash transactions over $10,000, when applying for certain federal benefits, military paperwork and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Then, their are some people that is optional to give your Social Security Numbers too. For example; doctors and dentist intake forms, supermarkets, drugstores, preschools, and airlines.

If you don’t know if you should be giving your Social Security Numbers to people, then ask them “Why do they need it?” If you don’t think reason is a under stable one, then don’t give it to them.
