The Negative Impact of Religion and Government, and The Separation of The Two
I’m an eighth grade student who is very interested in writing, and this is my first essay of the year. My only hope is that it is not horrible.

The reason we are having multiple wars in Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, is because of religion. The Taliban, and Al Qaeda are made up of Muslim radicals. The Taliban are made up of drug dealers, organized criminals, various felons, and even just commoners, who all are religious radicals, who believe that the United States should be eliminated, so they can ether conduct their illegal business without interruption from the world’s largest superpower, or because they believe Allah thinks that we are evil, and must be killed. Al Qaeda is the same way, but they are more organized. These two groups also want to take over the governments of the country they reside in. I don’t think that will go over well, but, it is an example of how religion can negatively affect a country’s government. The Al Qaeda and Taliban are a bit extreme, but I believe that we have a hint of this influence in our government. It’s what’s keeping certain people from getting benefits, and it is keeping certain leaders from representing people like them. Our country was founded because we did not have a say in what laws or taxes were brought onto us, and, to me, it seems to be happening again, and somebody needs to make a stand, so I am. At this point, you are probably thinking that this is some Atheistic rant, and that I am against all religions. That is not true. I accept all religions, ideals, and values. It’s only when people take those ideas to extremes is when it bothers me. I myself am not religious; belief is a virtue that I have not been granted with. However, those who do have the ability to believe in ideas like that must be grateful, but some are not. They abuse their belief to change and manipulate other people into more believers. Nobody should be forced into something that they are not, and everybody deserves the chance to develop into who they want to become, not who they were told to be. This negative affect is present in out government, and I believe that it should be stopped before it manifests into something we cannot handle, let alone control. It does not belong in the lawmaking process, it does not belong in out military, and it does not belong in our country. I believe that religion has a negative impact on the governmental system, and that it should be taken out completely, if possible, and taking it out would improve our government for many reasons; it would benefit the military, our situation with gays, it would make us slightly safer.
