The Negative Impact of Religion and Government, and The Separation of The Two

I’m an eighth grade student who is very interested in writing, and this is my first essay of the year. My only hope is that it is not horrible.

The third reason I believe that the removal of religion from government will improve our country is because it would make us slightly safer overall. It would make us safer, because, as I mentioned at the beginning of this essay, the Taliban, and Al Qaeda, are make up of Muslim extremists, and the removal of those two groups will have obvious impacts on the safety around the world, but I am also talking about domestic threats that don’t put the government in danger, but it puts the individual in danger. During the civil rights era, many black churches were vandalized, insulted, and even bombed, because of the KKK, their morals, and their religious beliefs. I don’t believe a group like the KKK will show up, but I do believe that individuals who have come to believe that certain individuals must be eliminated because their god told them to, or because they believe they must be taken out so they do not threat their beliefs. People like this have harmed, even killed, many, many people. With a government that is run on rational thinking, rather then beliefs, many people will follow suit, and they will not think that religion is as important to society, but they will start to think of it as something that is very personal, that gives them as an individual hope, rather then large groups of people with the same thoughts and beliefs. This will also result in much more diversity, and more sets of morals, which will allow our government to make laws that are more adapted to the people’s needs, isn’t that what we were founded on?

I believe that the integration of religion and government is a bad thing, which affects us all, even if it is just in very small, annoying ways. It is important for you to agree with me, because the separation of religion and government will achieve a style of government that is run on rational thinking, rather than beliefs. If you do not agree, you just have to think, how many wars have been fought over religion? How many lives have been lost over a religion? How many unfair, and wrong, decisions have been made because a person is of a certain religion? Now, I ask you, do you want your government run on these same sets of beliefs? So I am asking you, the reader, to spread the word about how this separation can improve you lives, for this one paper cannot get the job done by itself.
