This article is pure racism. I work for a company that employs dozens of Immigrants who work both in the front interacting with Americans in ENGLISH and in the kitchen. These workers all make the same if not MORE than the American employees because they earn it.

There are very few Americans that come in looking for jobs in the kitchen but, when they apply they are hired. The company would obviously, prefer Americans, who are legal and speak English as their first language HOWEVER the Americans that are hired in the kitchen don’t last more than a few weeks.

And as for the countless immigrants that do end up working for below minimum wage…look at their working conditions! They take those jobs because they have to, not because they want to “steal” American jobs.

You can’t steal a job from someone who doesn’t want it in the first place.

And concerning the language barrier..Many of the immigrants that do come here have had little or no schooling. They haven’t all had the opportunity to learn English at a young age so it will obviously be difficult for them to learn as a grow adult…but look at their kids. you had better believe that they all speak english! the point is to provide the best they can for their families future, if they could do that in their own country where they have friends and family, where they have grown up, where they can live without constant fear, they would do that.

Americans take all their opportunity forgranted and selfishly want to keep everything for themself. KICK OUT ALL THE IMMIGRANTS and see how many Americans are going to be delighted to fill the jobs they’ve been suffering through all these years.

i think that all immigrants are welcome as long as they do it in a nice legal manner. I say this because all of our ancestors are immigrants. America wouldn’t be here without those people and neither would we so all immigrants are free to go where they please as long as its legal.

This is stupid. Our country WAS built on immigrants. Every single one of us is an immigrant or our families were, unless you’re native american. You say that 25% of those in jails are illegal immigrants, what about the 75% who are LEGAL immigrants who are in jail? Did it ever occur to you that maybe you don’t have a good point? The majority of crimes committed in this country are not from illegal immigrants but those who were born and raised here AKA legal immigrants. Most illegal immigrants want a better life than even their parents could’ve imagined for them. We have good lives here and the only way you would understand that is by living in Mexico, or Africa, or anywhere else.

And you say that the majority of immigrants want money. Well…what else would you be working for? Hello, all American’s want is money too. But there’s a difference there. American’s are greedy and want the money for materialistic crap they don’t need. Immmigrants tend to want money to help support their families. Illegal immigrants are people too and you don’t need to look down on them like they’re second class citizens.

I Like everyones comments….even the negative feedback. I found this as an essay topic I responded on my hard drive months ago. i decided to play devil’s advocate just to see how good of a point i could make. From the feedback i guess some of you believe my point wasn’t valid at all.. in the beginning of the article I DO mention that we as Americans are a nation of immigrants. my main goal was to just raise some questions in peoples’ minds. Legal or illegal immigrant. It doesnt matter. \”there\’s no place like home\” Nobody leaves their country because they want to, they leave because they have to. It is an alternative to starvation, poverty or death. Some parents leave so that their children could have a good future or some just want to be with their relatives. Is that such a crime? I believe that immigration is not really a bad thing, and that immigrants should be able to come into this country if they want, as long as they do it legally. They deserve to have the same rights as we Americans do, but they have to be guaranteed to be able to be citizens. Carissa is only partly right. first of all you need to change the title of this article because i see no pros in it. second of all if our countrie is over populated it is because people seem to not have heard of a little somthing called a condom……or birth control.
third these immigrant work just as hard if not harder than any one else. they do not steal jobs…they take jobs no one wants. so you need to get your facts straight. i could list more things that are pros but that would take me all night.

Immigrants, whether they are latinos or europeans, asian, african, where ever they are from,come to this country to work, to have better future, to overcome the social and economic constrains of their own nations. If the immigrants are being employed by american companies is because they show the necessary skills to get the job done. the job market in the US is very strict and to be able to get a job is another way to show that YES immigrants want, can and are willing to learn whatever it is necessary to acomplish their goals. whoever wrote this paper has no idea of the many troubles and sacrifies immigrants go through to be able to blend in, to participate, to learn the language, to grow, to be part of the community, to help others, to be consider as what they are HUMANS not just ALIENS, yes they are aliens because they come from another nation but they are not alien to this planet, the planet we all share. Immigrants make an effort everyday to go out there and overcome all the barriers that many of you put there to make their sacrify even more painful. another thing : do you know what takes to become a citizen of this country MONEY, many immigrants are able to put aside that money to pay the fees to become a citizen, however many others can not have the same priviledge, the little income they get in the low paying jobs that others are not willing to take because they feel to good to do, they use that little income to support their families here and in their county so it is not really that easy. The great thing is that Immigrants are strong people who no matter what keep working and LEARNING and moving on, and growing and becoming educated, immigrants do not come here to take your jobs, they come here to provide their abilities and share their strenght to work together with everyone else to help each other have a better future.

Immigration is a part of life and has been for thousands of years. EVERYONE wants a good life. Am i wrong here??? And yea there are some negative sides but that is something we just have to live with. People just need to focus on what matters in life. Live well and do what you can to make the US a better place. All people deserve a chance. Yesss the LEGAL way but still…… give them a choice at least: come to America and prosper or come to America to live poorly, increase crime rates, get hated and kicked out. It all comes down to the individual. so dont discriminate or be rascist!

You guys are all acting like they are hurting us, when actually they are helping us. They pay regular taxes making the economy move smoothly. Even though the goverment finances them, they still do not earn enough to make a living. If you really want a job as a toilet scrubber, then be my guest. Although I believe that something should be done about illegal immigrants, i still think that immigrants are good to the economy. They help us by taking jobs that no one else will do, and they work hard at what they do. Immigrants, unlike Americans, are not greedy. They don’t take anything for granted and appreciate everything. We are the “Land of Opportunities”, and that is what we need to live up to. All that the immigrants are looking for is a good and safe place to raise a family and live.

It is not possible to have a valid reasoned discussion about this topic or in fact any topic with those sad folks on the left. With the current economy, I think we should start running south for a change. So, if people do’nt work, they sould leave America? How excactly do we earn the right to be here anyway? i think that illegal immigration is wrong. My family comes from Mexico. My father was illegal and he too seen nothing wrong with it. Until now that is. He is against illegal immagration as well. It is not ok to come over here undocumented or to take someone elses identity and claim it as your own. this is identity theft which is a federal offense. Are we saying its ok to break the law just to get here. There are ways to getting here legally. It takes more time of course but it would’nt if so many immigrants were’nt coming illegally. It’s not ok to just assume you have rights in a country that you by law do not belong. I am not against legal immigration but i am against illegal immigration.

Nothing is wrong with legal immigration. In fact, diversity is a good thing for the young kids growing up in this nation. Yet our country IS getting packed. What will we do when we run out of space for homes and schools? In this country, not just immigrants are working. You can’t actually believe that not one white person is thankful for what they have. While many immigrants ARE working just as hard, there is a stereotype that every single white person is lazy and will not work. I think that all of us, White, Black, Mexican, and all others need to work together to solve this problem instead of pointing fingers like 5 year olds.

I just want to say that this article makes a little sense out of everything that was said. Personally I believe that without mexicans or any other immigrants this country is at a loss. Just because this person is against immagration does not make them racist. My father personally lost his job to an immigrant. He worked very hard for over 20 years and where did that get him? Everything in America is controversial. Controversy and diversity characterize life here. Therefore, there must be, I think, pros and cons for immigrants just as there are good and bad people everywhere. But we can\’t overgeneralize. It\’s unfair and illogic to say that all immigrants are a big burden to the country or all are criminals or even 25%. If so, are your sources of this statisctic reliable?
What I could read between the lines of the article is all biases, generalization and hatred of immigrants. The writer did his/her best to appear as neutral but his attempt was a failure.
Ignoring the immigrants\’ rights goes against the principles on which this country was founded. As long as immigrants work hard to have a better life for themselves and their families they are contributing to the progress of this country. Second of all, Americans are taking jobs from well deserving Immigrants. They are competing not only with Immigrants but among themselves as well. Sometimes this competition can bring a negative feel to the environment. Its even worse for Immigrants going from welfare to jobs, Things don’t always work out the way they plan. Most Americans demand a higher wage for their work. This is completely unfair to the Immigrants who are eilling to be paid less for the same exact work

Thirdly, there is a communication gap due to Americans who believe thier culture is the only one in the world. Most Americans just want money nowadays and could care less about learning about the other cultures of the world and seeing that they have much to offer. Only about 33 percent of immigrants are becoming Americanize. An amazing 67 percent of immigrants recognise the importance of thier heritage, and keep thier culture instead of throwing it by the way side for Myley Cirus and Football. These are some of the highest numbers in history. Ignorant Americans who are unwilling to appreciate other cultures sort of taint our identity as a country. I sure wouldn’t want to be known as a country of people who don’t show effort. That’s just not what our country is about.

However these “Americans” seem to be more of a hinder than help nowadays. They are causing a negative environment around us. For example 75% of prison inmates are “Americans”. That should tell you something about their attitudes. Although these “Americans” built the foundation for this country, they can make it crumble just as fast. We need a solution before it gets too out of hand.

Laughing Man, actually over population can be a very bad thing. I’m in 7th grade and we have already covered this. One way it could be bad is because more people is going to mean more crime rate. Also it will mean more traffic. It could also result with more homes being built, which means more pavement, which means less soil. This could result in more flooding. We are just starting debates and this is a topic I’m debating. You might think that over population is a good thing. AND I’m not saying that there are only bad things about it. This country could also have a advantage from it.
