The White House Came Up with a Bill to Fight Cybercrime

Obama Administration submitted a comprehensive bill that proposes to establish new standards and the fight against cyber crime and will allow the state to financially support companies that hold the key infrastructure to create secure systems against attacks. Every day, public infrastructure is subject to repeated attacks, and Obama said since two years ago that these attacks are a real danger and should be treated with priority.

Obama Administration submitted a comprehensive bill that proposes to establish new standards and the fight against cyber crime and will allow the state to financially support companies that hold the key infrastructure to create secure systems against attacks. Every day, public infrastructure is subject to repeated attacks, and Obama said since two years ago that these attacks are a real danger and should be treated with priority.

Practically, through this bill, companies (whether and private) operating key parts of infrastructure such as power stations or networks, may receive state financial aid and assistance to build systems that withstand attacks and to repair damage done by past attacks.

In addition, it wants increased penalties for those who initiate cyber attacks and suggests that some companies – the key to be obliged to notify both clients and authorities, if a virus attack has led to the loss of confidential data.

The proposal came from the White House has been welcomed by leading members of Congress who had proposed in recent years various ways to fight cybercrime, but expect a clear position of the administration.

The bill would give the Homeland Security Department (Department of Homeland Security) to intervene and determine the operators of key parts of its infrastructure and take steps to improve security in the face of attacks.The measures will be evaluated by independent audit companies.
