Two Wolves and a Sheep
Where I think we’re headed.
Okay the election is coming up. We’ve all seen the political ads. If you didn’t know there’s an election not far away then I don’t know what rock you’ve been hiding under. But there’s something bothering me that I’ve gotta say.
We are heading for a socialist state.
Ok let me explain. There’s kinda a spectrum of ways of running the government. On the VERY far right are anarchists. They think there should be no government. They don’t like rules, don’t like taxes and don’t want to be told what to do.
Then there are conservatives. They don’t like taxes, don’t like most laws, and while they see the reason for having a government they want a very small and insignificant one.
To the left of them are republicans. They don’t like being taxed TOO much, don’t like having lots of silly laws and think that the government should have some say in their lives but not much.
Then there’s moderates and undecided people.
To the left of the are democrats, who like a kinda big government and think taxes and laws and government aid programs are good things in moderation.
After that we have liberals who like big government, lots of taxes and lots of spending.
And on the far end of the spectrum are communists, who think the government should own everything, control everything and run their lives for them.
And most people fit into one of 2 groups. If you think that people are naturally inclined to be bad and need to be told what to do in order to be good people then you generally belong to the left wing. If you think that people are naturally good and the government needs to back off then you generally belong to the right wing. That’s the single biggest difference between the right and the left.
One of the founding fathers said: “democracy has to be more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.”
Our system of government only works if both parties are always in contest. The checks and balances are designed so no one person, group or idea can take over and fundamentally change the country. That’s important- NOT DOING THINGS AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION. I’m about as far right as you can get, but I personally hate George Bush simply because of the patriot act. The constitution says that I have a right to my privacy. And the patriot act in particular is directly and openly violating that.

INO – the government is “dumbing” down America so that “we the people” will be too stupid to know we’re being screwed! We have effectively taken away nature’s rule of “survival of the fittest” by allowing people that are too stupid to breathe to grow up and have children – thus passing on their “stupidity” gene to their children. If some guy is too dumb to know that hot coffee is going to burn his “lap” or that he is not a fish and his body is INCAPABLE of breathing water – do we really want him in the gene pool? I don’t need government regulations to keep me from doing things that will harm me – neither do my children if I take care of them and teach them some common sense. Unfortunately, a population that knows how to think for itself is hard for a dictator to control

It is not the governemnt that is dumbing down the people, it is actually our own ignorance. My generation specifically. Most of the kids I grew up with do not care about the factors that govern their lives. It’s the failings of parents to sit and talk with their kids about “The way things are and how they came to be this way.” It is the failing of schools to care more about their scores than if the kids are actually retaining that information. I am not for this “blame the governemnt” movement, it is to general and not specific enough to take any action against.
My father did a great job bringing me up and giving me a base philosophy for life. Instead of teaching our children how to think and develop their own philosophy, we teach them what to think and not to question what we teach. “Don’t do that!” “Why?” “Because I said so!” We teach out kids that all right and wrong is handed down by a higher authority, so we develop them to accept whatever the government says and eventually they learn not to question it because “they said so.”

Most of the examples you cite are the consequence of our living in a litigious society and the fear of liability. This has more to do with the judiciary rather than the legislature. Liberal principals often make a lot of sense. Basically, if we as a society invest in the underlining infrastructure of our society, it will be to everybody’s benefit. Of course right now, we really don’t have any money just a crap load of debt. And also if a person chose not to pay taxes, b/c they do not agree with the government’s spending, then the government will incarcerate that person. So, yeah democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding on what to have for lunch!!

People on the left see a role for government not becuaes they “think that people are naturally inclined to be bad and need to be told what to do in order to be good” but because they believe that in addition to individual interests, we have certain interests in common as a society. People on the right generally believe that if everyone energetically pursues their own interests without being restricted in any way by any government, the market will coordinate their efforts and take care of the common good. People on the left believe that we all have some responsibility to the common good as well as to our individual interests, and we need some institutional mechanisms through which to coordinate our contributions to the common good–it won’t “just happen.” Those mechanisms are what government consists of in a democracy.
